Question about 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Pickup

1 Answer

My neighbor has just bought a 97 Chevy S-10 pick-up and the AC will not stay cool. We've put the freon with yellow die in, but cannot find any leaks. The previous owner had the AC worked on but doesn't remember who or when. Now he says both AC lines are very HOT. What is his next move? Thanks Gary

Even though you might not have any leaks if both lines feel hot it sounds like your A/C compressor is not pumpimg the freon through the system.

You might need to replace it.

no easy fix
replace the ac compressor or have an a c shop replace the ac shaft seal
both are not diy domain as it requires an accredited ac professional to do the job to get the ac working properly again

Someone please help? I have a 2005 chrysler 300 touring and when we bought the car 4 months ago the heater would work just the ac, and just the other night the ac broke or just stopped working

The A/C can be read with a scanner. But just a guess. The heat didn't work for maybe three reasons, first the heater core is plugged up, second someone bypassed it because it was leaking on the inside, third the blend door motor is bad, stuck on A/C.
The A/C could be low on freon, again. Most places put die in the system to check for leaks. Takes a black light to see the die, unless it was used in excess. You will need to recharge it to see if it is the problem. If you do it yourself, use at least one can of freon with die in it. If it happens again, you or someone can find the leak.

97 Plymouth Breeze won't blow cold air due to freon leak.

Your AC system is a closed system, so the fact you have to put more Freon in, means there is definitely a leak. I would check it out with a mechanic.

Ac not coolin

You have a leak .The easiest way to find the leak is to have it recharged and while recharging the system add a leak testing fluorescent Dye after a few days look for the leak with a black light and Yellow tinted eye glasses

Ac compressor cuts on off just had a new one put ,on is it because its low on refridgerant

It could be low on freon or it could be a bad low pressure switch located at or by the accumulator or
ac dryer, if you have a ready made gauge, it will have a gauge, hose and can of freon, it can be closed,
the can can be empty, you just want to make sure there is freon pressure at the low pressure switch. once confirmed and you know there is normal freon pressure, proceed by setting your ac to high, pull off the low pressure switch molex and connect a jumper wire across it, if the ac clutch stays engaged and
the car starts to cool, just replace the low pressure switch, you do not have to pull the freon out to replace just make sure the seal is lubricated with the correct pag oil. if you just had the compressor, replaced you could also have a freon leak. good luck!

Take it to a ac specialist.. The will put in some coolant and also put in a die.. They will chaeck it again in a few days with a floresant light that wil pick up were the die is coming out.. Could be a leak at a hose..
