Sudden knocking then blowout of transmission fluid while driving this just happened no fluid reading on stick appears to leaking from just behind bell housing not from pan

Think the torque converter has died a death ,but you will have to remove the gearbox to have a look

My 1990 gmc k2500 sierra four wheel drive has blue smoke coming out of tail pipe and runs low on tranny fluid and i need to add 2 qts a week but there are now leaks.how am i loosing tran fluid?


Pull the vacuum line of the transmission modulator valve. If there's oil in the line, the diaphragm in the modulator valve is cracked and engine vacuum is pulling trans fluid into the engine intakee

Where is the correct transmision fluid level in sentra 2006?


With car running and warmed up,pull transmission dipstick wipe clean reinsert and level should be between marks on stick.If stick is dry you are very low and there must be leak.fill to marks and keep car running and look for leak under car if no leak present then drive car a few miles at a time and check level repeatedly.Somtimes tranmission fluid will only leak under heavy driving conditions.If fluid level continues to go down with no leak transmission could be burning trans fluid up,Which is not good.thus you will have to bring to shop.Good luck...Brian

How do i know if my transmission is going out or if im low on fluid? cant seem to find my transmission fluid where would i find it? and what are the signs that my transmission is going bad?


If you know where the oil dipstick is, the transmission dipstick is very similar but closer to the firewall. Engine must be idleing to check tranny. There are normally marks on the stick that read "cold" and "hot". That describes the level of fluid dependant on tranny temp. Transmission fluid should be changed around every 30,000 miles. Symptoms of bad tranny, assuming good clean fluid, are hard shifting, won't shift (i.e.stays in 2nd gear) Or you accelerate and the tranny spins then jerks the car suddenly. An honest tranmission shop can tell.

Are you aware of any transmission issues or leaks in the past? Do you notice any spots on your driveway or in the area where you normally park your car? If you do, than you may have some sort of leak issue. If so, a special gasket usually has to be replaced for a permanent solution and repair can be pretty costly. And of course, if there appears to be no leak, not to forget the possibility that the transmission is simply going bad. If this is the case, repair costs could be sky high.

One quick and easier thing to try would be to go to the dealer and get a bottle of transmission fluid. I say dealer as opposed to going to the local autoparts store or Wal-Mart because most Dodge and Chryler minivans use a specific type of transmission fluid and you want to make sure you get the right type or you could make the problem much worse. The fluid type is usually indicated on the transmission dip stick. Pull out the stick and wipe any excess fluid off with a rag or paper towel to read easier. On that note, I assume that the transmission fluid level is OK? If it is low and it was fine when you checked it not too long ago prior, then this would be a sign that there is some sort or leak. In this case, I would definitely try getting a bottle of transmission fluid and filling up. If the problem dissappears, then I would say you will have a temporary workaround solution with a tiny cost of buying a bottle of fluid. If you plan on getting rid of your vehicle soon or say for another year or two, you could get by occasionally refilling with fluid. Of course, that's granted that the leak is a slow one. If there appears to be a fast leak, then you would have to decide whether it's worth taking the car to a shop. You could end up spending a couple thousand dollars depending on the problem.

2001 Ford Windstar transmission fluid leak


Sorry!,..More than likely the front seal of the transmission has actually cut a groove into the torque convertor neck.I have seen these hundreds of times, when the van is hot the seal wont hold the fluid pressure behind it and trans fluid will leak past...also the lines/hoses are on the side of this transmission..the vent is located on top of this trans near the main connector,.not in the front(Ax4n).,, seriously go to an accredited trans shop only for this repairATRA......again sorry for the bad new..Bob Stinson

Bad transmission leak


are u sure it isnt the rear transmission seal? they do wear out or sometimes they just go bad.if you drop the pan you will better be able to tell if its the seal or not.
