Question about 1987 Jaguar XJ6
I LET MY 87 XJ6 SIT AWHILE YES WOULD START TILL BATTERIE WENT DEAD. HAD BATT CHARGED FULL,NOW WONT START ,NO SOUND AT ALL .I PUT GAS IN IT AND IT READ ,BUT NOW A WEE LATTER IT READS NO GAS.WINOWS ELEC DONT WORK
Lot of variables and even more possibilities
however, lets start with the "fuel" issue
assuming the gauge was reading empty and then you added enough to get the needle to move... it may be possible that in the process of cranking and cranking to start the vehicle you used enough fuel for the gauge to ready empty again... this though can be resolved by adding AT LEAST 5 gallons today and watch the gauge
often, with most high end vehicles with lots of electronics it is possible for the gauge to read LESS than actual in a computer programmers attempt to keep you from running out of gas.... So add gas and we'll move on!
FIRST thing I really need to know is what the cranking speed of the engine is at the time of the no start.
Do you remember what your vehicle sounded like, when it was running, just before it would start-up
Typical you have a cranking speed of 300-500rpm
Is your fast, slow and/or uneven?
Next, lets see if you are getting spark
Pull a spark plug wire and hold it to something metal under the hood. *** make sure you are only holding it with ONE hand to avoid shock! *** then have someone crank the engine and while you watch for spark. Do this in the shade or at night because it might be hard to see on a sunny day
last, but not least... while in the drivers seat with the windows UP, turn your ignition to the ON position, not start or accessory. When you turn the key on you should hear a whining noise... that's the fuel pump. the whining will stop in about 5 seconds
Once you get this done, update your post and I'll give you some more ideas!
we might find something easy like a blown fuse, defective relay or sticking ignition switch but we'd be guess right now with at least some baseline information
