Question about 1990 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer
I have replaced timing chain, spark plugs, ignition wires, cap/rotor, distributor, knock sensor, O2 sensor, computer, computer chip, EST module and also replaced gas. I have set timing at zero degrees with computer disconnected and timing still advances up to 32 degrees at idle with computer plugged in. Could the MAP sensor be controlling the ignition timing? Could the IAC valve or the coolant temperature switch be the problem.
The temperature sensor is where I would start. If the sensor tell the computer that the engine is cold it will initiate the warm up mode which includes advancing the timing along with a rich fuel mixture. Unfortunately, there are many sensors that assist in controlling timing and fuel mixtures that it is difficult for me to give you a guaranteed solution.
