If ABS is activating for no apparent reason then the most common causes are failed ABS wheel sensors or more commonly, cracked reluctor rings.

You won't usually see the crack in a reluctor ring, but it opens up when it rotates at running speeds. You can also get it to show with a simple fluorescent dye crack testing kit (not cheap to buy for a one-off job, but any decent garage or engineering workshop will have a kit to hand).

Unfortunately, reluctor rings are expensive as they usually come as an integral part of the driveshaft or hub assembly. Third party versions may be available and are less expensive (still a painful price though) but to fit them they must be heated until cherry red and then dropped into position. Get it wrong and you have to cut off your new and expensive ring and start again. Not really a DIY job unless you're very confident and experienced.

If the crack test proves negative, then ABS sensors are easy to fit and can be tested by swapping around to see if you can move the fault from one wheel to another or even from the front to the rear. Sensors are relatively cheap, but failures are far less common than with reluctor rings.

Front brake rotors are warped, time to do a brakes job, make sure calipers float on pins and that you replace rotors, aftermarket are cheaper than G.M. but hold up just as well, change pads and lube the slides in calipers

What causes the front brakes to pulsate on a ford f-350 super duty


just because the rotors are new dosen't mean they come out of the box 100%,you might have one that is running out,causing the pulse,most pften it is recommended to have them turned on a brake lathe prior installation (saves you the trouble of doing the job twice)

Front end shakes when braking


will try to help. when front wheels shake while applying brakes and you can feel shake in steering wheel, front brakes and rotors need replacement.rotors are warped,if you replace front brake pads, it will return[shaking when you apply brakes] suggest that you replace front rotors[both] replace [both]front brake pads. cost? i would charge [brake pads cost $55.00] labor,$60.00] total $115.00 thank you for choosing fixya.com

I replaced both brake pads and rotors on both the front and rear of my 2007 Jeep Liberty but when I brake, especially from a higher spped such as an exit ramp, there is shaking/pulsating in the brake...


The brake rotors need to be cut or replaced. There are high spots and low spots on the rotor, and due to this, the brake pedal will pulse when the brakes are applied. When ever brakes are replaced, the rotors should also be serviced.

When applying the brakes, the whole car shimmys. replaced rear rotors , turned front rotors , and replaced all the pads


I think you should get the Tierod ends checked. When you get a Front-end alignment, the mechanic will check them. Although you turned the front Rotors, when you start Braking the front tires can wander differently than when they freewheel.

Sometimes you can get a rust problem on the Rotors that were just made shiny. Moisture on the pads imprints a rust blotch on the Rotor and they grab at the rust until the rust wears down. Then they are ok.

When the rear Rotors were replaced check your bill and see if the Emergency brake shoes were changed. The E brakes should have been adjusted when the Rotors were replaced. The Shimmy you describe can also be the ABS working. The ABS is a pulsating Brake action.

Get your front-end checked first, then as the mechanic road tests it when the Alignment is complete, he can judge the brakes.,

My 2003 Lincoln had new brakes and rotors 6 months ago - now, i notice a squeek when I apply the brakes - also, on snow when lightly braking, my brake pedal pushes itself against my foot in an up and down...


if you had brakes and rotors 6 months ago,did you do just front or just rear?
if you did front and squeal is in front,the new pads got hot and it glazed them,but the rotors are you pulsating pedal,are you sure they did rotors and pads?
there is no way this should be happening in 6 months.

My escape is making a grinding sound, along with pulsating when braking. My husband has replaced the abs sensor, and it is still doing te same thing. Any suggestions what to do next?


The grinding sound when braking is almost surely worn brake pads. If an abs sensor is bad it will set the abs light on. Heres an easy way to figure whether to look at the front or rear brakes first. When braking, take notice as to whether the vibration is felt more in the steering wheel or the seat. If it is more in the steering wheel take a look at your front brakes first, and obviously if it is felt in the seat look at the back brakes first. Both front and rear need to be checked out because the pulsating you are feeling is due to rotors or drums that have been heated up and warped. In order to fix both problems, you most likely will need brake pads and rotors/drums. If you just replace the pads, not only will the pads wear away faster due to the damage to the rotors/drums, but your vibration issue will not go away and infact may intensify.

The best way to answer you question is to tell you to take the vehicle to your nearest dealer and inquire with the parts dept. I can tell you that on the ffront of your car you have rotors and the brake used on the front is called a pad. Also your vehicle does not have a separate parking brake. It is the same as the regular rear brake no matter which type of brakes you have on the back.

PULSATION WHEN APPLY BRAKES


Even though you replaced the rotors, seems that you will still need to have them resurfaced. This assuming you are experiencing pulsation only when braking.
