check for lose studs/ nuts--blown manifold gasket/pipe gasket. If there is a flexible section there check for cracks. Check cat converter for failure and blockages.

Trying to locate my 2003 grand cherokee laredo 6 cyl, upstream oxygen sensor.

The sensor will be screwed into the exhaust pipe or manifold and will have a one wire lead attached to it. It will be forward of the catalytic convertor. A 7/8" combination wrench should remove it but a special socket (at any auto parts store) may be required.

I have a 96 Geo Metro and the code is P0420 and what does that mean.

this is a catalyst efficiency code meaning your cars computer has indicated a problem with the flow of your catalytic converter located just after the exaust manifold i the exaust system, usally these codes are triggerd by a bad or "lazy" oxygen or O2 sensor, try replacing your 02 sensors if they have some miles on them and this may cure the problem, after the repair you will need to have the check engine light cleared by a shop or auto parts store

I have a strong exhaust smell- a put-put noise coming from under the hood- took to muffler guy, not the muffler

most likely (since it is not the muffler) is the donut where the ezhaust pipe hooks onto the exaust manifold....or the manifold cracked or needing a new gasket

Have problem with my hyundai santa fe exaust system 2004 2.4l.

If you are getting exhaust fumes in the engine compartment I advise checking the exhaust manifolds for cracks. When the engine is cold remove the heat shield from the manifold using a 12mm socket and inspect from the top and underneath for any cracking.
