Hi , Go to like a Autozone and Rent or Buy a Cooling System Pressure Tester. It Fits right on where your Radiator Cap Goes. Pump it Up to 10-12 Pounds of Pressure, And then Look at the Area where its Leaking. It Could Be a Heater Hose Going to your Heater Core,Or your Heater Core is Bad and Leaking,Just make sure you Have the Radiator Full before doing this Test. If thats not showing you when the Leak is it could be a Freeze Plug on That side of the Enging Block or Even Worse a Freeze Plug In the Back of Your Enging,Which then to get to it you'll have to Pull Transmission to Replace It. BUT Before all This Are You aware that your Air Conditioner Evaporater has a Hose that During its Cyle Heats and Prevents the A/C Evaporater From Freezing up, And Has A Hose That will let the Water out As the Evaporater Melts the Ice Build Up. and it will run on the Passenfer Side on The Ground From the WYOCWBOY

01 durango leakiing coolant nea trans and inside of vehicle

Leaking inside sounds like the heater core. If the core is broke right where the heater hoses connect, it might be losing coolant down both sides of firewall, inside and outside. Otherwise, look for a leak at the intake manifold. That might run down back of engine near the transmission, as you indicated.
Good luck.

What exactly is the "round

that is where your heater core is. Its leaking, or the feed hose to the heater core is leaking. You really need to pull the plastic cover off, just below the dash on the passenger side to look. the heater core looks like a small radiator. If coolant is leaking out of it, replace it. the coolant will cause problems in the long run, if you don't fix it now. After fixing it, steam clean the passenger side of the suv, to stop having a smell, and stop the corrosion. hope this helps

Does a 97 dodge ram 1500 have an engine to firewall ground strap and if so can you describe the whereabouts?

My '97 with the 5.9L gas engine does not. It's grounded from the battery to the frame and a ground strap ran from a bolt under the exhaust manifold on the passenger side(near the oil filter) to the frame

HI, The easiest way to find a cooling system leak to preform a pressure test. This test requires the use of some special equipment so I will just give you some common areas of these engines that leak. 1. check the upper radiator hose at the radiator. the plastic tank cracks sometimes. 2. check around the thermostat housing. 3. The worse for last there is a coolant passage tube that runs under the intake manifold almost impossible to see without taking things apart. but when it leaks the coolant seems to show up n the floor on the passenger side back by the firewall. I hope these help and you can locate the problem. Be careful when looking for these problems when the engine is hot you can get burnt. Good luck

A Large leak is almost never a gas cap, thats usually the small leak. Dodge uses cheap hoses that crack badly. Check the canister in the Engine compartment, passenger side. Then check passenger side behind the cab by the frame. 2 canisters and hoses leaving that ,often cracked. Last is a piece that connects from the hard steel lines near the oil pan....one of these three usually

What exactly is the "round plug type thing" near the firewall [passenger side]? Is it a sensor of some type? I, too, have a coolant leak here on my 2001 Durango; its tucked in rather tightly near the hood/firewall corner. My electric fan is not kicking on; vehicle overheated tonight. (4.7 liter)
