Have 1985 Toyota pickup that will die -Carberator has been rebuilt. If you pull over to the side of the road when you feel it losing power it does not always die. Love my truck. I have owned it since 1984. Concerned toyota owner.

Alright, i have a 1987 Toyota 4x4. it has a 22RE full injected motor..it was able to run, but it was running rich, and idling pretty eratic..and then now..it only starts up..and dies. after like 5seconds.
fine metal shaving means major engine damage, time for a tear down , start with the oil pan, find metal in there which you will, the damage is extensive, time for a rebuilt
disconnect the positive side cable on the battery. then unbolt the positive battery cable on the starter. then unblug the ignition wire from the starter. then get a 14mm wobbley socket and pull off the starter.
replace the coil after testing the no. 1 spark plug. pull the high tension cable and put near about 2mm from the ground. if no spark is seen. check the contact point, capacitor and distributor.
