The computer is not allowing the egr solenoid to activate. vehicle sometimes run erratic and idles roughly. Code 41 comes up in addition to the codes 84 and 33 (related to egr.)

it is an electrical or ecu problem rather than the egr. the egr was not be activated by the egr control solenoid. i just can't figure out what to do other than changing the computer, why the ecu is not grounding the solenoid so it can activate the wiring has continuity all the the way to the ecu

Change your egr valve on the car and the problem should be rectified.
the egr valve exhaust gas recirculation valve send exhaust gase back to the inlet manifold to keep the air fuel fuel mixture at the right temp and the exhaust manifold from over pressurising.
if this fail seizes shut it stop the recirculation from happening yuo cant just clean them though they have to be replaced

Testimonial: "i think your are right about the egr. the problem is getting the thing to activate. i was told by a supposed ford tech who examined the vehicle to change out the egr control solenoid and the the egr position sensor which i did. i checked the egr and it is not stuck and clean, and does not have a punctured diaphragm. there is power to the solenoid and i think the ecu is not letting it ground to activate. there are no codes other than 33 and 84 which relate to the egr system and 41 which indicates a lean situation. can't find any vacuum leaks either. So maybe i should change the ecu. What do you think? thanks for your input"

If you have fitted new solenoid and sensors to the car but no new egr, then the peramiters for the egr need to be set ,with the car running and on a diagnostics machine to set these. Its not just a plug and play thing to do ya see.

Get the peramiters reset to your car and let me know how it goes. if a garage fit the new solenoid and position sensor to the car and did not set these, its their fault not yours. So they have to get them reset not you because they fit the new parts.

    Hope i Help

How do I correct high idle problem

Year/make/model??? Applying vacuum to the EGR and making the valve open will not be the correction. Once opened, this valve allows unburned exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber resulting in a rich mixture. The computer sees this rich mixture and reduces the injector pulse allowing the idle to slightly lower. If the vehicle were at proper idle speed and this valve is opened, it would run rough snd possibly stall

Rough idle

the egr system works with vaccum and the vacuum control is a solenoid, who's controlling by open and close a electro valve,
if the valve is stoke open that allows the vacuum to go to the egr and make it work at the wrong time.

Code 15 on 1988 ram 150 without vehicle speed sensor

Code 15 relates to a failure in the vehicle speed sensor circuit. The job of the vehicle speed sensor is to inform the computer about the speed of the vehicle so the computer can calculate engine load and prepare the engine idle speed control system while the vehicle is decelerating. On deceleration, the idle speed control system will allow additional air flow into the engine as the vehicle rolls to a stop. Usually code 15 will be accompanied by erratic speedometer readings (or no reading), erratic AT gear shifting, TCC lockup clutch instability, and intermittent or complete failure of the cruise control.

It can be issue with IAC( idle air control valve) causing the problem.

There are many other possibilities causing these idle issues.Engine idles rough. There are few help links with solutions to troubleshoot such idle issues.

2004 freelander hse erratic idle in park, fine in drive

Do you know what engine scan data is ? Disconnecting sensors is not the way to find a problem ! What is the computer seeing as data input signals . Is the vehicle in closed loop fuel control , is the EGR opening when it shouldn't be , Is the PCM controlling the idle air control valve or is the vehicle drive by wire (electronic throttle control ?

Have the ODB II codes (computer error codes) pulled and reset. Some auto parts stores will do it for free. Make sure you write them down. You could need new spark plugs and/or wires.

1990 ranger 2.3L runs rough.at idle and when cruising. good acceleration. changed out the obvious, plugs, cap, filters etc. no luck. runs fine for awhile with egr sensor disconnected than reconnected, but...

There will be an egr control solenoid that allows vacuum to reach the egr solenoid, sometimes it will be called the egr vent solenoid. It is probably bad.
