Brake lights don't work

Brake lights do not go on when the brake pedal is pushed in. all of the other tail lights functions work. checked fuses and even put new fuses in the brake function slots but no change. the brake light function fuses seem to all be located in the component fuse compartment under the hood but i have checked the fuse panel along the left side of the steering column in the cab as well. i checked other fuses as well but all pertained to lighting functions and all seemed to be good. Tail light and brake light bulbs are the same bulb (two elements in each of the four lights - one for tail, one for brake). I have not tried to change a bulb as all four bulbs going at once seemed unlikely. car does not seem to have any other problems mechanically or electrically.

This sounds like a bad brake light switch, this switch is located on the bracket that holds brake pedal, you can test for power at switch, also if you remove connector and jump terminals with a wire and see if lights lite, if lights light then switch is bad,

My brake lights would not go out on my 2006 Sonata and when I took it to the dealership I found out that there was a recall on a small part under the brake that controled the lights. They fixed it for free and I havent had a problem. I would check the dealership and see if thats part of the recall

I have a 2000 chevy 2500 and the tail lights, tag lights and brake lights have stopped working, I checked the bulbs and they are good, fuses are good. Have not replaced the brake relay under the hood. Do I...

check for power at the wires going intop the tail lights, real common that the circuit board is bad, but unlikely both at the same time. The tag, tail lights and brakes are 2 different systems. Do the turn signals work normally? if so the wiring from the turn signal switch to the brake lights is GOOD. the stop light switch had\s a ORANGE wire that should have 12V if not ck STOP LPS fuse, when brake pedal is depressed, the WHITE wire is 12V (at the stop light switch) if that is OK, the turn signal switch COULD be bad. The wiring harness plug is near the back left under the tailgate, see if that is disconnected?

Tail lights and brake lights are combined. I have tail lights but no brake lights. fuses look good.

No they are different systems going to the same place, the tail lights use one fillament in the bulb and the brake and turn signal use the other, a couple things to check, brake light fuse, brake switch (located on the brake peddle) check for power, I have also run into the 4 way flasher that were the problem, more than likely the brake switch

My tail lights work just fine but my brake light will not light up when my brakes are being used, is it a fuse issue or wiring? 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS

Could be the brake light switch that is activated when you push the brake pedal. It is usually located by the brake pedal. When the pedal is up it pushes the switch in, no power to brake light. W HEN YOU PRESS PEDAL, SWITHCH BUTTON COMES OUT SENDING POWER TO BRAKE LIGHTS. CHECK THIS SWITCH FIRST.

Brake lights will not work. tail lights work. fuses good. wires not loose. replaced bulbs

I would check the brake light switch on the brake pedal, verify you have power going to it, and then, when the brake pedal is pushed down, check for power at the other connection.

Brake lights not working at tail lights but the light in the rear window does come on when brake pedal is pushed.....regular tail lights come on...right and left turn signals also work ....flashers...

the upper brake light works differently than the outer lights. check your brake light switch by the brake pedal. It will have a plunger switch on it. The center brake lamp works off a power convertor instead off the brake light switch. The switch has a separate wire for that which is still working

Tail lights don not work including back window light and it is not a fuse either because I have checked. what is wrong. What can I check.

you can check the small button that the brake pedal pushes against when you push the brake sometimes this switch gets stuck in and does not let the brake lights come on its under the dash above the brake pedal it has two wires on it take them off and touch the two wires together and the lights should come on if they do the switch is faulty bestaluck glenn.......

Tail lights wont work

sounds like ground problem- remove tail lights and look for wires going to body -remove screww clean grounding area and replace- both sides. You did not say whether the lights work when car is off? With car off and brake pedal pushed is there any brake lights ? If not procede with above.
