Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue

When I turn of my car anti-freeze comes out of the over flow tube. What could be causing this problem?

It could be a clogged radiator or your head gasket might be starting to go. Have the radiator and coolant system cleaned and flushed first and go from there.

Start by checking the radiator cap, make sure the gasket on the cap is not cracked or worn,

Yes, your water pump attaches to the front of the engine block. If a leak opens up between the two, coolant goes into the crankcase along with oil. That means water and oil are being circulated through the bearings and cylinders of your engine. Don't drive it in this condition.

Heater core


Sounds like a bad heater core. You will get steam/vapor out of vents from this. If you are referring to the over flow tube being the evaporator drain tube at the firewall its because the heater core shares the same case with the A/C and its filling up with anti-freeze.

Are you getting coolant flow through the heater core? These cars have common problems with heater cores but they are easy to replace. IPD has a Video on U-Tube with step by step instructions. Also if you are in very cold weather have you checked your anti-freeze? I saw a Toyota last year freeze completely because of no anti-freeze. It took days to thaw out the heater core and they were lucky that the ice did not blow it apart. It took me hours of starting it and running up to a low temp and shutting it down to get it drivable.

My 1997 subaru impreza squeals badly and then engine smokes


Hi this sounds weird does the smoke come out from the front engine covers? the squealing could be the cambelt trying to turn a semi or completly ceased waterpump which would cause the smoke after a while, also without the waterpump working properly the engine will leak water and anti freeze out the overflow and overheat really quickly

Oil in water circuit


oil in water is usually caused by bad intake gaskets. if the intake leaks, it will let oil in water. anti freeze flows in intake, if gasket is bad it will drain down inside of engine to the oil. good-day ! you may also see a anti freeze leak around outside of intake gasket that mounts to engine. if it is bad enough.

Air flow will not get hot. Only warm, about 67 degrees is all. Have replaced thermostat. Fan motor operates fine, just temp sensor seems to have no effect.


Hello! The heater core is partially blocked...I would suggest flushing the cooling system with the temperature control on high...NOTE...The type of anti-freeze used in your vehicle is DexCool...If another type is used it may damage the cooling system...To flush...Drain radiator...Fill with plain water...Run engine until thermostat opens...Turn engine off...Let cool then drain...Do this at least three times or until water drains clear...Install new thermostat...Refill with 50/50 DexCool...Leave the radiator cap off as engine warms...Allow all air bubbles to escape...Then install cap...

The down side of DexCool is electrolysis...Electrical current flowing in the cooling system which can cause the anti-freeze to "clump" blocking its flow...Periodic flushing eliminates the problem...

My truck wont blow out any hot air, just cold. i put a new radiator and thermostat in it. it is full of anti freeze


Try removing the Heater hoses from heater tubes(be careful not to break heater tubes off) then back flush heater core with garden hose(Don't use a lot of pressure). Jell from antifreeze builds up in the heater core and blocks the coolant flow. If it is easier, remove the heater hoses from the engine, that is safer. Back flush the heater from the hoses. To Back Flush (The hose coming from the water pump is the inlet)(Hose going to Manifold is outlet) Back flush outlet hose! To much water pressure may cause damage to heater core!!!! Do Not ues AIR!!!!

What does it mean when transfluid get into the coolant


The transmission has cooler lines that run to and from the radiator. The fluid is cooled, by running thru tubing inside the one side of the radiator tank. The tubing probably has a leak, causing anti-freeze to get into the transmission. This MUST be repaired, due to the fact that the anti-freeze will do some damage to the transmission.

Leaking anti freeze


Sound like the tube that connects your heater core to the water supply from radiator. On Fords these tube are metal and very oftern rust out and need to be replaced. This is located behind and to the right (passenger) side of the engine.

Check gauges indicator light comes on


Look for a crack in the overflow tank. It will be somewhere along the bottom if there is one. The other possibility is that the hose to the tank is leaky and/or the lid to the overflow tank is loose and you are suffering from evaporation. Once you fix the leak, refill with a mix of 50% anti-freeze and water.
