Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep not running right!

I am really frustrated with my 2004 Jeep GC. It started acting up about a year ago. The first thing that happened was the cruise would shut off on its own. Then the next day, as I was driving on the highway, it just started acting like it was cutting out. The problem kept getting worse and finally just would die and not start again. I have had the spark plugs and battery replaced, the fuel line checked for pressure and the computer checked. The engine light will sometimes come on then after a few miles, just go off again. We are at a loss as what to check next. Any thoughts?

What i do when i see cars that act like that is check fuel pressurse when the problem is acting up also check the spark to see if it is present at the time of the no start also when the check engine light comes on set up with a shop to check forr codes when the light comes on dont shut it off until the scanner can rread the codes. also that veh is equiped with a auto shut down relay system what is does is if a crank shatf sensor starts to go astray it can send the computer into shutdown mode also the o2 heaters can short out and that will send it into shut down mode also when it goes to shut down you will see it on a scan tool that the relay is shutting down also look at the grounds for the cruise control its usaully not the asd relay uaslly a system connected to it that shuts it down. hope this helps thunderboltz

Firing order jeep Cherokee 2004 3.7 l v6

are you doing spark or timing a cam? what? what is JOB?
it dont matter, the engine, ecu does that, (magic)
but if it has a coil pack like my 3.8 then the coil pack must
be wire right and is marked. clearly on the pack.
they have USA jeeps and Export. country never stated here. sad huh?
and use differnent spark systems (3 types used, but 2 common)
per below.

v6.
is this not a Cheokee? the non Grand ended in 2004. so...
ill go with GC 2005, v6 3.7L
the v6 began in 2005, not 2004, but, maybe yours is the first./

the 3.7 has coil over plug, spark, 6 coils.
and the harness is fixed to those coil so all firing order are
dictated in the ECU/PCM (hard coded)

VIN engine code, K. (not stated)
http://www.fixya.com/cars/t13893405-firing_order_diagram_3_7l_jeep_2006

and already asked, and answered .

my 3.8 (2004) jeep.
is 1,2,3,4,5,6
and is like this.

mine uses wasted spark system.

http://www.fixkick.com/look/odds-ends/jeep/2008-JK/slideshow/firing-order.JPG

so post VIN, or tell what engine is really there.
and the true year. or build date (sticker)

so my answer is.. 2005 GC, 3.7L V6, not I-6
it has 6 cops, "coil over plugs" 6 induction coils
and runs same firing order, as the old I6 did.
1-5-3-6-2-4
but the I6 4.0liter runs a coil pack and is quite different.
these;

times 6
all laced in, hard.

Sometimes my interior and exterior lights including my dash lights , flicker and flash on and off when I am diving at night. What could possibly cause this to happen.

Does it flash like there was a security alert? But without the horn going off! Like 8-10 flashes and then goes back to normal!

If so I had this problem with my Jeep GC a couple years ago and had a hell of a time figuring it out. Got to the point, I wouldn't drive it at night.

When it got cold, sometimes I would have to jump the system to get it started. Checked the alternator, but the voltage show 13 Volts so thought it was okay. Replaced the battery, no change but longer between problems. Replaced battery cables, again no change but much longer between problems. Then I had the lights, AC, radio and everything on at once, and could tell that the electrical system was really stressed. Pushed in the cigarette lighter and the lights flashed before.

Changed the alternator - no more problems. Cured the not starting and lights flashing. The only thing I could come up with is that if the security system detects a low current flow it sets itself off, and then resets itself. So the low output from the alternator would cause the problem when a lot of electrical things were in operation at once.

My 2004 GC has engine light reading code of small and large vaccum leak. Mechanic couldnt find anything under hood. Vents for AC or heat switch to defrost area when pulling a hill, then back to normal when...

Some vehicles are equiped from the factory to lower or deter ac and heat flow from the vents in order to keep power and moment when the engine is under more load. This happens on my girlfriends explorer as well but for hers its a factory thing. When the vents started acting up is this when the engine light started coming on?

My 96 GC 5.2L V8 started acting up a few weeks ago by taking several turns of the key to start. Now the only way it will start is if I add starter fluid to the throttle body and once it starts it runs...

This sounds like a weak fuel pump, put a preasure gauge on the fuel rail and check the preasure with the engine off turn on the key and preasure should be 47psi to 51 psi.lower than 47 replace the pump, a few pounds make a big diffrence when trying to start,

I have a 2004 Jeep GC. Check Enigine lights stays on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What code are getting after all those new parts?
and what engine do you have,do you know what the original code was, because one code can do a domino affect to other sensors,it doesn't make them all bad.
your problems could be a lot of things ,faulty crank and cam sensors, egr valve leaking vacume,or intake leak of vacume.playing hit or miss with parts is really expensive.

2004 Jeep GC limited stalls ONLY in reverse

you have to be careful that it is not the safety neutral switch.since stall means different things to different people,it is hard to tell exactly what is the issue.if the safety neutral switch, which is wired to the start and ignition circuits is bad,it could kill the engine.
jack up the vehicle and look for bad or shorted wires or connectors before doing anything else.
the other thing is how it behaves with no load on it. put a floor jack under the rear differential and raise it just enough for the wheels to be off the ground a couple inches.put it into reverse with no load and see if the wheels turn in 2wd mode.

Hi all,
suppose you have worked out your little problem. I have just been experiencing the same thing with my 2004 GC ltd. Windows, mirrors, etc not working and interior light staying on. Took it to the shop and they re soldered the wire (behind the door panel) that had come off. Cheap problem really.
