Question about 1992 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

I had the water pump changed on my 1992 Ford Taurus. Afterwards when the car was turned on it was letting out a lot of white, grey smoke from the tail pipe and the car was shaking. what can be causing it? I was told that maybe I had water in the oil and also there was a sensor in the back of the car that I could not figure out what it went to?

It's quite possible that the head gasket is blown and it's allowing water to enter one of the cylinders and that's a good possibility for the white smoke. It may be that before the water pump was changed that it overheated and allowed the head to blow a gasket.

ah, man, about how much does tomething like that cost? and how would you know ifyou had blown the head gaskets? I do remember driving one night and it got over heated a nd stalled on me on the freeay. After it cooled and I got water in the radiator it turned on and worked great.

Hope I'm wrong, but here's how to check. Pull the dipstick out to check the oil level. If the oil is foamy on the dipstick, that can be an indicator. If when you first try to start the car...if it is harder to turn over than normal, that could be an indicator as well.
You can get price quotes by calling a few repair shops. They've got pricing guides so they should be able to ballpark it over the phone for you..

I have a 1992 Nissan Terrano that has been submerged. Since then I have drained all the water from the fuel tank, primer pump and the diesel pump and lines. There seems to be NO power at the dash and...

the clue is in the colour of the smoke , if it turns white then you still have water in the engine , fuel system etc somewhere , have you at the least change the engine oil ? i would advise also getting the tank pump changed ,and then the electrics would seem to be affected so remove what you can and spray with something like WD 40 to dispel the water , good luck keep me posted

After smog pump reinstallment, car wont crank

If car cranked but white smoke came out of the tailpipe. The car may have either a bad head gasket or a cracked cylinder head. You mentioned changeing the radiator.Did the car overheat severely? This would stress the headgasket. The car may not start now because the plugs are wet(water)or the rings have lost their ability to seal compression due to overheating.

On my 1992 ford taurus I replaced the belts and now car is squealing and smoking what now

Assuming that you have routed the belt properly:

Look for a pulley that isn't turning when the engine is running. A seized air pump did this exact thing on a Lincoln Town Car that I recently worked on. My in-laws had a Mercury Zephyr that stopped dead from a seized power steering pump.

Have a helper ready to start the car when you say so. Have a flashlight in hand, if necessary. When the engine is running, look for a seized (not spinning) pulley. It's likely that the belt was damaged if it smoked a lot.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

it might be a hose about $10 not to hard to change.. if its the water pump its about $50 its not that easy you have to remove timing belt and make sure everything lines up right and depending how bad it overheated you could have other problems like a warped head or head gasket if you take it in for water pump it will cost about $250
