Question about 1997 Honda Accord

1 Answer

I have a 97 Honda Accord that stalls in warm/hot weather after it had been sitting in a parking lot for 6-8 hours in the afternoon; never in the morning and never in the evening. It usually starts right up but may stall again while I'm driving. Today it was about 93 degrees and it would not start for about 10 minutes. Any suggestions?

There's a main relay or fuel pump relay located under the dash on driver's side. this relay goes bad all the times. it usually goes bad when you leave the car in a hot sun, next time keep your window down to see if it will start.

My honda accord 93 won't start wen is hot,mi honda accord no enciende cuando esta caliente o cuando lo dejo bajo el sol

Overview Why doesn't my Honda or Acura start sometimes? The main relay is famous for stranding people for a few minutes usually in a parking lot in hot weather. The problem is so common that it's been coined the "petrol station fuel relay" from fuel station attendants. The technical name for the main relay is PGM-EFI Main Relay Assembly. PGM stands for programmed, EFI stands for Electronic Fuel Injection.

The engine stalls when the engine warms up! It usually happens when the weather gets very hot. If you let it cool down for a few mins it will start back up and you can drive awhile and it stalls again?

This is common with the Honda's in that era.
Could be the ignitor for the ignition or it could be the fuel relay. I think it is probably the fuel relay as I replaced the one on my wife's Honda Civic and now it runs like a charm.

Car will cut off while driving or have problems restarting

Sounds like an ignition switch failure(i just worked on a 2000 accord with the same problem). The metal contacts within the ignition switch that provide power to vital electrical components are worn. This may cause your vehicle to stall while driving, and progress in hotter weather. Try shaking your Key while the engine is on and the vehicle is parked(usually it shuts off)....You may notice the speedometer to drop to zero when your vehicle stalls while moving. Replace the switch they range from $49-$95 from Advance auto or Autozone or call your local honda dealer (there is a recall on this and over 1.3 million vehicles are affected from years 97-02) Hopefully this helps!!

I have the same problem with my 98 accord v6. however it stalls more in warm/hot weather than in cold weather.

have a shop or dealership check ur fuel pump.. it is in the tank... so its best to let a shop do the work for u..if u dont have the expertise to tackle it urself... also try checking the ignition switch as well ...
