Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

2001 Ford Focus SE-Just replaced the battery, alternator, belt and both pulleys. When you put the car in idle at the beggining it works ok, but shortly after that it kind of loses power and it shakes, and when the AC is turned on it almost dies off. What can this idle problem be? Is there anything to be adjusted so that the car can run on higher RPM? normal is at 9 but this drops lower when it shakes. Please advise. Thank you.

I would first check for a vaccum leak then move on to idle air sensor it controls the level of idle.

My 2000 Ford focus was making a grinding noise when driving the power stering went out and I look under the hood and the belt was loose what do I do... O battery light is now on.

sounds like your belt broke. replace with a new belt. battery light is on because the belt is not spinning the alternator. If it busted you should be able to pull it right out. Make sure to check the tensioner pulley, alternator pulley, power steering pump pulley and ac compressor pulley for free play(if you can make it spin with your hand it's good) and make sure that they're not binding or making any grinding noises. If the belt has never been replaced, then most likely it gave out.

Loss of power steering, battery light is on and check engine light is also on

Check for bad alternator or wiring to alternator. Also replace battery if its old, as it puts extra strain on alternator. Check also that the belt didnt come off, if this is the case, check all pulleys on motor to see if one seized up and needs replaced with belt.

Altenater belt there is 5 or 6 pulleys there is a wheel that im not sure but i know it rotates like the pulleys but does not have the belt groves. how offten do u change the belt it is worn and loose...

If the pulley doesn't have grooves, it's most likely the tensioner pulley that you adjust to tighten or loosen the belt. Below is a diagram for your car that shows the individual pulleys and the belt routing. As far as how often to replace the belt, every other year works for me unless you put a lot of miles(more than 35,000 a year) on your car then I would advise every year.
Best of luck! Greg

2004 ford focus se replaced alternator couple of mnths ago went to start this morn battery dead charged battery still no start. jumped of another battery started but when removed jumper cables car died

Sounds to me that your battery has shorted out and will not take a charge.Disconnect the battery and try to charge it, then check to see if it has taken power with a volt meter. A shorted battery will take all the power from the alternator and run it to ground leaving no power to run the car. Also check the alternator output with a volt meter after you have checked the battery as a shorted battery can burn out the alternator.

First check all pulleys for wobble or looseness. If all pulleys are OK, use the below diagram to put the belt on all pulleys except alternator. Put a wrench on tensioner pulley and pull down until the belt will slip onto the alternator pulley. Check that belt is still on all pulleys before starting. If belt comes off again, one of the components is failing (usually an idler, tensioner or water pump wobbling).

How to fit a alternator belt on a ford focus 16.00 can you send me a pick

p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }

Simply follow the steps

Disconnect the battery's negative cable and set it aside where it can't accidentally snap back onto the terminal.

Remove the car's accessory drive belt. Disconnect the belt shield by removing its two 10-mm bolts, push up on the tensioner by hand, pull the belt off the air conditioner or water pump pulley and remove the rest of the belt. Take note of how the belt loops around each pulley.

Open the cover containing the alternator's electrical connectors and disconnect them. Remove the bolt on the coolant expansion tank then detach the tank from its clip and secure it away. Detach the power steering reservoir, engine wiring loom bracket, ground cable and evaporative emission canister purge valve.

Unscrew and remove the alternator's first bolt on its right side. Unscrew the second bolt on the left and disengage it fully from the bracket; it cannot be removed from the alternator. Remove the alternator from the engine.

Install the new alternator, placing the built-in bolt within the bracket and tightening it first. Insert and tighten the second bolt.

Replace all other objects set aside in the reverse order they were detached. (evaporative emission canister purge valve, ground cable, engine wiring loom bracket, power steering reservoir and coolant expansion tank). Plug in the electrical connectors and replace the cover over them.

Replace the accessory drive belt. Loop it over all the pulleys except the one on the air conditioner. Retract the tensioner upwards as you did before to fit the belt on the A/C pulley.

Reconnect the battery cable.

Replace alternator 2001 ford windstar van

Hi, first you disconnect the battery. then you need to take the belt off by the back pulley. But you don't need to take it all the way off. Just so you get the alternator belt off. I just replaced the one on my 1997. Then you have three bolts, and one small nut to remove . Then put all back together the way you took them off.
Take care

My belt tore, and my engine wont start now?

I think the crank sensor is on a bracket next to the crank pulley. Did the belt break a wire to the sensor or break the sensor when it came off.
