Question about 2005 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

I am working on a 05 Impala and the car always ran fine until about a week ago when it was having trouble starting. You had to crank it over for quite awhile to make it start, once it started it ran absolutley fine. So I was then told (not my car by the way, its a realitives) that they went to try and start it and it didn't want to start at all but then later would. So it was towed to a repair shop (under warrenty) and it was there for 5 days and the said they cant find out whats wrong with it even though it still has issues and stalls randomly. So they obviously weren't a help. So the car is back and now the chaeck engine light is on (wasn't before) and still has trouble running. They had the code scanned and it cam back as a missifre through the cylinders. they didnt give me the code number though so i cant give that. Now the car has about 90,000 miles on it and i have no clue of any past services. Do you think its the plugs? Thats the only thing that came up. I'm not to experienced with this new **** and mechanic shops are too much and useless so we don't trust them. Any suggestions please? Thanks very much!

I would tend to believe that its a cps cam or crank positioning sensor depending where it is on the flywheel if it stop on a good spot it starts and if started on a bad spot it wont I had a dodge that did the same thing.

Cranks but won't start

Depending on the year make and model, a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) would help. Is the check engine light on when it does run? Testing needs to be done. Check for spark at the plug, make sure fuel pressure is what it should be and that the fuel injectors are working. If all that is good, I would check compression and timing.

Engine cranks, but does not start

My suggestion to this is to check the basics. Check fuel pressure and check spark during crank. There is no quick answer for a no start condition. You always have to start by checking the basics. An engine with no spark or fuel will not start every time.
