Question about Chevrolet S 10
The electrical wires from the trans to the PCM will have to be tested with an OHM meter to check the continuity. It sounds like you have a short in the wires. The trans has solenoids to shift the gears controlled by the computer which is the PCM. 1st & reverse is one of the solenoids. Then you have 2nd & 3rd gear solenoid. Overdrive has its own solenoid
More than likely if your old trans ran like this one here you have a wire not making a good connection no longer
