Question about Chevrolet S 10

1 Answer

I have a 1997 chevy s-10 transmission problem i have changed the transmission but still have a simular problem the transmission when u take off in drive the transmission takes off in second instead of first gear it also will not shift to overdrive but it will shift from second to third fine .i can manual shift it from first to third but it won't shift into overdrive.i have a automatic transmission of course i was told that the transmission needs a input for the transmission to shift to first & to shift to overdrive i also was told that second to third without an input of power.i was wondering of the location of a relay or a electrical conponent that could have a fault in the circuit loop the fuse is good but i would like to check all angles of the electrical circuit loop for troubleshoot my transmission i have a 4.3L engine in my s-10

The electrical wires from the trans to the PCM will have to be tested with an OHM meter to check the continuity. It sounds like you have a short in the wires. The trans has solenoids to shift the gears controlled by the computer which is the PCM. 1st & reverse is one of the solenoids. Then you have 2nd & 3rd gear solenoid. Overdrive has its own solenoid
More than likely if your old trans ran like this one here you have a wire not making a good connection no longer

What type of powersteering fluid for a 1997 chevy s-10 4.4liter

Most any power steering fluid should be fine. Even transmission fluid would work if that is all you have.
And the engine size is 4.3 if its a V6.

Transmission doesnt shifts properly when this happends i cant get key out of ignition

I had a problem with a Toyota Camry that was simular. The transmission needs to be in park to get the key out of the ignition. There is a selinoid in the shift module that allows you to move the stick out of park. There was a fuse that wasn,t making contact with power. Check to see if you have a blown fuse. I believe it was a ten amp fuse. Sorry I can't remember which fuse it was.

The following diagnostic codes are showing up on 1997 chevy s 10 truck: po740, po753, po758, and po1860. What do they mean and what parts are they describing?

Hello, all these codes are transmission related.
P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction
P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical
P1860 - TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit - Electrical
If any of solenoids have picked up some debris, or tiny pieces of metal from worn transmission componets, they will often set a fault code. Just something to keep in mind.

I hope this helps.

I have a 1997 Kia Sportage (#KNAJA5278VA787759). The automatic transmission used to not shift into overdrive at 60 km/hr, but only after the engine was warm--after about 5 km of driving. The problem...

I had a simular problem.
Ended up changing the themastat and the gears changed into overdrive when the temp. got to normal running.
Be carefull that you get right thermastat though. You want one that reaches the normal working Temp as soon as possable.
Hope this helps.

What is the capacity for transsmission pan in my chevy cavalier 2.4 1997

If you're just dropping the trans pan of an AUTOMATIC transmission; about 5 quarts. If you mean the entire transmission, its more like 10 quarts. If it's a MANUAL trans, it's a little under 2 quarts.

Hope this solve your question (remember rated this post).

The reverse ligths on my mom's S-10 pick up won't come on.

I'm guessing you checked the bulbs. test the reverse light switch. Should be found on the drivers side of the transmission. Should have power leaving it when the truck is in reverse.
