Hello, Have a 04 explorer 6 cyl. I have 2 keys but it wont start with either, the security light is blinking fast. The gas pump is working but it will not turn over the engin, starter doesn't engage. I used a trouble scaner on it and it say code erased take to dealer. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? Thanks, Tim

If it doesn't start with the key either. Remove the aftermarket alarm/remote start system. Some thing you might check first is the neutral safety switch. On the transmission close to the shifter cable. Any way. after market alarms don't last that long. Even the best on the market seem to only last about 6 to 7 years. Cheap ones are lucky to last up to 2 years. Once the start going out, they can cause all sorts of different problem.
Sounds like an anti-theft issue. Make sure you are not using an aftermarket key. There is a technical service bulletin01-6-2 which pertains to the problem.
Either way if it starts or not with the spare key a trip to the ford dealer may be in your future. occasionally the security system will forget your keys. You can program them yourself but you will need two keys that work. If you have two keys that work let me know and I'll let you know how do do it.
If you do not have two keys that work than the ford dealer will have to reprogram your keys into the security system.
got a 2004 ford explorer it wont start but it turns over put fuel pump starter evap canister and purge valve it was broke, and a battery fuel filter, tac system and it still wont crank
is either bulb working ? the front turn lamp or the rear..ive got a 92 explorer and if one of the bulbs goes out it starts blinking...the arrow on the dash...twice as fast..if the bulbs aint a problem and both frt and rear is good thy replacing the flasher its located in the fuse compartment on the drivers side under dash and is a round relay and metal
Whats happening is your PATS (Passive Anti Theft System or security system) is not programmed and can't read the code that is being transmitted from inside your key. There is only 2 solutions to this and one is going to cost you money... sorry. We'll start with the free solution.
1. First thing is that you will need 2 keys that are or were programmed to your vehicle. You are going to have to cycle your keys and you cant fool the system by using only one. Insert the first key and turn it to the run position for approximately 6 seconds then remove it and within 5 seconds insert the second key and do the same thing. Pull that key out. Now your vehicle should start with both keys and the theft light should be back to normal.
If this doesn't work option 2 is you have to take it to a Ford dealership and they will have to fix it for you. Hopefully this isn't the road you have to take. I work at Ford and am one of the few in our dealership who program keys. All the best and I hope solution 1 works for ya.
First I would make sure that the lug wires on the distributor are correct. Sometime when replacing the wires is is easy to get them crossed. Below is the firing order on both engines for the Cherokee. I have also had the module go bad before as well. Below is a diagram which calls this module a camshaft positon sensor. Hope this helps.
