You need an OBD2 code reader that you plug in under the driver side dash DTC connector.

Hi Candice:
If the check engine light is blinking, there is a problem that could cause serious engine damage.
You should take it to a qualified service mechanic.

Honda civic 1998 EX check engine light on codes p300 p0301 p302 p303 p304

I don't think it is your catalytic converter because your light usually flashes and a bad cat I never heard of them causing a misfire. I ran your other code it is for a faulty EGR system. Exhaust gas recirculation excessive. You are getting too much exhaust gas back in the system. This will cause your misfire. Go-to a trusted mechanic and have them check out your EGR system.

I drive a 1998 Honda Civic DX. One day ago WHile the engine was cold, I revved up the motor in order to get out of a slippery/snowy parking spot. The check engine light came on. It has not gone away- but...

advance auto, pep boys or auto zone will hook up a scanner and check why the light is on-for nothing. get the actual code (i.e. 'P0174) and report it back here for opinions as to why it set the cehck engine light (CEL).

The check engine light is on on my 1998 Honda Civic DX, does it merely need to be reset using a code or is there something else. O2 sensor was replaced right before I bought the vehicle

The check engine light (yellow light) comes only when the computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system u will seldom feel the car engine run any different, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.

Check Engine light going on for a '98 Civic Hatchback

Well, go to Auto Zone and have them read the error code it is setting. They'll tell you what the issue is. Usually, if it's not running hot and the oil light is not coming one, you can drive it for a while. It could be something you need to have repaired, though, or it may cause more damage.
