Question about 1995 Nissan Pathfinder

1 Answer

I have a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder SE V6 with an automatic trans that doesn't shift up unless I release the gas pedal while driving. It was making a fluttering sound that I noticed when shifting to the next gear and now it doesn't make this sound anymore. I recenly had a trans service including filter and gasket replaced done but it didn't help the problem. Do you know what might be causing this problem? Also all of the gears seem to work fine. Thanks!

The computer is not reading the wheel speed/throttle position properly. in this case there should be codes stored on the computer in the trans which might tell you why it wont shift properly. Take it to autozone and get them to scan codes from the computer, then come back and let us know if there are any.

What is the problem with my 1995 automatic Nissan Pathfinder?

Have the computer scanned for trouble codes before doing any other work on it. MAF or throttle position sensor or ground leads from engine and trans to body, stuck accelerator cable, broken engine mounts....the causes could be many.......

Trans wont shift into over drive all the time

an automatic trans will not shift into overdrive if the motor is under loads such as hills, or general acceleration. you will probably feel it kicking in as you slightly release the gas pedal on level ground.

Tac dont work. tranmissionwant shift unless you let off of gas

The connector on the back of the gauge cluster isn't making a good connection. If the speed senser is bad the speedometer won't work either or the fuse the speedometer won't work but if the speedometer does work the trans controller or the shift switch ( park neuurtal drive ) could bemaking abad connection or be full of tans fluild or water (frozen?) The tach not working may indicate a fuse or connection problem to the cluster ( speedometer gauge unit and the computer doesn't know how fast the motor is going) The check engine light should be on in this case and checking for codes and following the repair recomedations for them should find the problem

You'll probably have to change the clutch plate on the flywheel. You'll have to get a floor jack, but a transmission jack is easier to remove the transmission. To remove the transmission you'll have to remove the tortion bars on both front wheels. Also, you'll have to remove the crossmember aft of the transfer case. You'll also have to remove the front and rear drive shafts. The manual says you should keep the transfer case from leaking oil out the back. but, you can just top it off after you're done. Be careful not to damage the seal seal for the rear drive shaft. Anyway, once you get the transmission and transfer case out (you'll have to remove the shift and transfer case levers), you should have enough space to remove the clutch plate from the flywheel on the engine. You should have an alignment tool to make sure the clutch plate is aligned with the crankshaft so you can put the transmission back on.
