Question about 1988 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

So far there have been no apparent issues with the way it has been running, but the check engine light came on while I was driving to work this morning twice (totalling about 10 min) and twice when I came home (totalling about 20 min)... I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what it could be because I don't want to take it to a mechanic and be charged for other "problems" they find in addition to the immediate one.

I have a 2006 saab 9-3 2.0 turbo v6 hatchback. 65k miles. Car was previously owned but checked out fine from dealership. Had about 3 months so far. Just had engine oil and filter changed all fluids...

Don't drive this car with the engine light flashing. Take it to another shop. Apparently the shop you go to only have code readers. Scanner will pick up everything. It needs to be checked for the history codes. There really isn't a quick fix, especially with an 18 hour drive. I suggest you rent a car for the trip. And save your car.

Brake lights ceased working.

-Make sure the correct fuse.
And did you check the bulb? If yes the bulb are good.
-next check power at the bulb. Ask a helper to help you brake and
check any power there or not. If yes there is power. Then the problem is NOT Ground.

Good Luck

Heater stopped working loss of coolant and rough Idle

I had a similar experience. Finally the car started overheating. Turned out the thermostat went bad and the radiator blew a leak. Had those replaced. Runs great.

Check engine light came on 2002 vw turbo diesel beetle?

well first off you need to have the codes checked and go from there there are many reasons that can cause the engine light to come on. when you find what codes are stored in it you can go from there. as for the turn signals most of th time i replace the emergency flasher switch. but it wouldnt hurt to check the fuses first.

Daewoo Lanos check engine light stays on but no codes coming up. Is there a way to reset?

I suggest scanned the computer in order to know fault codes stored there, soud like a EVAp or Emissions failing.

If the Check Engine Light comes on in the city but goes off on the freeway, then the fault is present during city driving conditions. Pay attention to whether or not the vehicle runs or drives any differently when the Check Engine Light illuminates. If vehicle performance does change, drive the car as little as possible and take it to be checked by a service professional as soon as possible. If there is no change in vehicle performance, you can drive home, but have it inspected as soon as possible. In this condition, you run a risk of the vehicle dying or not starting.

* The Check Engine Light comes on and stays on.
If the Check Engine Light illuminates constantly during driving with no noticeable driving or performance problems, there is a permanent fault in the emission control system. When this happens, the computer that controls the emission system usually has a backup program that runs while the fault is present. (These backup programs are often referred to as "limp home" mode programs.) You should get the vehicle serviced as soon as possible, but in most cases, the vehicle will continue to operate, though you run a risk of it dying or not starting.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

91 Geo Storm Gsi running just fine, one day I lost power driving 65, check engine light came on and was flickering, mph arm going up and down but didn't die then. Then it was ok.That happened 2 times...

Most engines don't fair well under extreme heat. It's apparent you might have some electrical issue's. Your rpm's or mph arm going up and down could be faulty speed sensor would cause arm problem. I think you may have more than one problem, the car shutting off is due to engine over-heating. Check cooling system-thermostat, water pump, radiator, engine fans and coolant temp sensor and fan relay's. It could be as simple as blown radiator hose.

We have a 2002 Trailblazer and today the check gage light come on and it read to turn engine off. When we were moving it was fine ,but when we stopped at a red light or in traffic it read the same thing....

I can't speak for the engine light issue, but look into stepper motors for your gauges for the oil pressure issue. I just purchased a used '04 Trailblazer EXT and the tachometer stopped working 1 week after driving it off the lot. I did some looking and apparently the Delphi motors that GM used do not hold up. My engine light started blinking and there was a hesitation in the engine when yo pushed on the gas.

if it's the yellow check engine light flashing, it means you have a serious rich running engine that will destroy your $200 catalytic converters very quickly. do not drive with a flashing light.
run computer scan for failure codes and replace bad sensor. auto zone will scan for free. Don't drive too far though.

LS430 check VSC light on after check engine light on

My car (06 GS430) began giving me more frequent "Check VSC" warnings. (Code P0455 in my case. Really glad I bought that OBDII tool--resetting the codes is a snap!)

I knew that a loose gas cap could cause this, so normally I just give it a twist and it tightens. Now I found that no matter how many "clicks" I tightened the gas cap, it would not cinch down snug. The lightest turn the opposite way would open it.

I was all set to head over to CarQuest for a replacement filler cap. But I thought I'd inspect mine first just to see why it stopped holding. Upon inspection, I saw that what holds the cap in place is compression of the rubber O-ring at the back of the cap, which compresses against the filler neck. That apparently was no longer happening.

I carefully removed the O-ring from the cap--using screwdrivers to lift it over the edge of the groove it sits in. Like removing a bike tire from the rim--work your way around. Then I cut a strip of electrical tape about 10" long, and 1/4" wide. I wound this into the curved groove where the O-ring normally sits, just to build up a little thickness. Put the O-ring back in place. Done.

Now the cap tightens like it's supposed to, and thus far, it has stopped the VSC error codes. Don't know if it will fix your issue or not, Good luck.
