Question about 2001 Kia Optima
Sure you can install regular plugs and they will fire and the engine will run just as well as Platinum spark plugs. Platinum Plugs do have one big advantage. They will last up to around 100,000 miles and on some cars the spark plugs are very difficult to get to and if you have to pay someone to do it, you loose all you save on replacing regular plugs every 40,000 miles and they may actually, in the end, cost you more than Platinum Plugs. So choose regular plugs if you know this car may not go another 100,000 miles. You will see no difference in gas mileage and power.

Yeah, you CAN use regular plugs, but it's kinda like an HDMI cable for your TV. You can buy a $6 cable and it works fine, still transfers teh signal, OR you an spend $55 and get a gold one, or somewhere in between $6 and $55, more or less, depends on what works FOR YOU!
Personally, most cars run just fine with regular plugs, but some vehicles are fussy... Champion, Bosch, Autolite..... etc..... some like one more than the other, and seem to operate better, but will adjust to most any plug.
If the plugs are EASY to change out, you don't have to remove a manifold, tire, trans & rear end, mother-in-law :0) ... to get at them, and you can do it yourself, the go for the cheaper ones. I mean, $2 a plug beats $10 for a plug in my book! They'll pretty much do the same job.
