Question about 2001 Kia Optima

Can't regular spark plugs suffice for a tune up? Everyone is trying to upsell platinum and above and I don't think they are needed. 2001 Kia Optima 2.4 L 4 cyl.

Sure you can install regular plugs and they will fire and the engine will run just as well as Platinum spark plugs. Platinum Plugs do have one big advantage. They will last up to around 100,000 miles and on some cars the spark plugs are very difficult to get to and if you have to pay someone to do it, you loose all you save on replacing regular plugs every 40,000 miles and they may actually, in the end, cost you more than Platinum Plugs. So choose regular plugs if you know this car may not go another 100,000 miles. You will see no difference in gas mileage and power.

Yeah, you CAN use regular plugs, but it's kinda like an HDMI cable for your TV. You can buy a $6 cable and it works fine, still transfers teh signal, OR you an spend $55 and get a gold one, or somewhere in between $6 and $55, more or less, depends on what works FOR YOU!

Personally, most cars run just fine with regular plugs, but some vehicles are fussy... Champion, Bosch, Autolite..... etc..... some like one more than the other, and seem to operate better, but will adjust to most any plug.

If the plugs are EASY to change out, you don't have to remove a manifold, tire, trans & rear end, mother-in-law :0) ... to get at them, and you can do it yourself, the go for the cheaper ones. I mean, $2 a plug beats $10 for a plug in my book! They'll pretty much do the same job.

On 2005 Kia optima lx 4 cylinder does spark plugs matter platinum or not?

ordinary plugs will do provided that they are the correct reach ( length of thread)
platinum plugs will out last the engine but you have to consider the cost as they are around 4 times the price of normal plugs
One thing you should know about the modern plug is that unless they develop a misfire with the modern ECM engines they very rarely need changing Unlike plugs in the old fashioned points in a distributor type engine
I personally have used the same plugs from new to disposal , 12 years later and at 230.000klms and misfire from plugs was never an issue.

What is the oe spark plug type for a 2002 kia optima 2.4L

KIA is a korean auto. most asian cars recommend nippondenso (also known as NGK) spark plugs. at their site they show 3 plugs available for your car. standard plug number W16EPR-U11, platinum plug number P16PR11, and iridium power plug number IW16, all with a gap of 0.044. standard will do. platinum is better performance. iridium is extremely long life. they go up in price accordingly. use dielectric jell on the plugs shaft to make removal of wires easier next time and to prevent moisture, and anti-sieze compound to the threads of plugs to keep them from seizing in the block and easier to remove next time. I got this info at nippondenso's website here:

I am trying to find out how to rotate my tires and find spark plu

rotate tires front to back on the same side.

if you have an engine appearence cover, you must remove it. otherwise the spark plugs should be easy to locate. just follow the spark plug wires to the spark plug. in the case of a coil for each plug, the coil will have to be remove to access the plug
