Question about 2001 Hyundai Sonata

Open Question

Had a wheel bearing noise on our 2001 Hyundai Sonata which we were going to repair. Then it wouldn't start (wouldn't crank & had a new battery). We installed a new started & installed a rear wheel hub. It started right up and took it out for a test drive (to see if anymore wheel noise). It started to run bad & sluggish like it was running out of fuel. Got back and it will not start but this time it is cranking. My husband figures it's the fuel pump (we've had other ones just die because of a fuel pump). He installed new pump, filter & strainer but it still won't start? looked at a plug and it's dry like no fuel pressure. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: replacing rear wheel bearings on 1999 hyundai sonata

  1. for drum brakes with sealed hub(all one piece) remove lug nuts and wheel.
  2. spray penetrating oil around studs if there is a big phillips head screw visible remove it with impact driver/if not use big ballpeen hammer ,tap on flat of drum near studs(becareful not to hit them) until drum loosens(your creating a shockwave to loosen rust)
  3. once drum is off there are 4-bolts coming in from behind backing plate, remove them then hub should be able to be removed w/a little persuation from hammer.
with out sealed hub ,
  1. remove wheel
  2. remove dust cap, cotterpin, star washer(if equipped) do not re use cotter pin
  3. remove nut then washer, wiggle brake drum and front bearing will come out.
  4. put nut on shaft tighten 2-3 turns grab drum by sides and pull towards you this should remove drum leaving inner bearing/seal on shaft
  5. to replace reverse procedure making sure to pack new bearings w/grease(take drum and use long punch to remove bearing races, use race/seal installer to install new races
with disk brakes

  1. remove wheel
  2. remove caliper/bracket
  3. remove rotor
  4. remove 4-bolts from behind, tap old hub out
  5. reverse procedure

One word:

Dealer.

Next time just disconnect the battery until you get it towed as this is a warranty item. I'll bet some wondered if this was a prank question like I did, right?

SOURCE: Starting problems with my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

I have an 03 Santa Fe as well and just had the exact thing happen to me. One day, it just wouldn't turn over at all and I had to have it towed to the dealer. They replaced the "crank shaft position sensor" and now the car is fine. I am not sure if this is your problem but it might be worthwhile asking someone to check it out.

SOURCE: 2001 Hyundai Accent cranks, won't start

its the camshaft position sensor . Its located (atleast on my 1.6L) to the right of the front HOT plate the conection runs between the engine and the right side fan. easier to work on if you take off the air intake thats by the left front side of the battery. you will be working between the fan and the motor. only one bolt but is tricky so u need a 1/4 inch nuckle with a 1/4 extention. once located and you have the right tools it will only take 30 minutes to replace....dont forget to take off negative battery cable before you start.

2000 hyundai sonata died and won't restart and it has no power inside, but engine cranks over.

check all fuses if you think its a possibility check battery terminals. idk actually you can get a little code reader from autozone and it will tell you what the problem is. all these newer cars are some what unreliable on the computer and electrical part. i had a 2009 acura rl and had nothing but electrical problems and left me on the side of the road multiple times and wouldn't start a lot because it wouldn't register i had a key and on and on and on with problems. if your set on keeping this car just go with the code reader. but my biggest suggestion would be to buy an american car next. besides the acura ive only owned american cars, for my new cars that is, and have had no problems what so ever with them and taking them to 200k before buying a new one. or for a cheaper rout you could buy a classic car which ive also owned many and they have been the most reliable wether its import or domestic they have been ages better than new cars.

Hard to start in morning, also noisey sound when clutch is ingaged.

Check whether the battery should be replaced due to being older than 3 years old which is the average lifespan of car batteries.

The noise you hear may be due to a worn out throw out bearing in the clutch. Change it when the clutch is serviced.

Good luck on these repairs.

Hyundai Balance Shaft Bearing making noise?

Possible. It's hard to give you an accurate cause, since I'm not able
to hear the sound. Most of the time, when you hear a slight wrapping
sound, it's a rod bearing,or crank bearing. When the rod bearing goes,
you'll know it,since it will knock like an SOB.
