Question about 1998 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

Is this vehicle worth repairing? My father purchased a 1998 Buick LeSabre which smells like mold (rust under seats and engine on all medal); air bag light won't go off; turn signals don't work auto; car STOPS for no reason - STOPS; really hot spot in middle/left side of steering wheel; no air conditioning; oil light won't go off; when driving sounds like emergency brake engaged; emergency brake pops up and down; gas pedel goes to floor for no reason at times; interior lights come on for no reason, etc. etc. Prior owner claims it was hit by a tree during a storm as reason for exterior dents, cracks, broken body work and denies it was ever under water. Tires look OLD - not much wear but OLD.

Ho rn not workingtold that it went through the air bag a 800 dollar job

Yes the air bag system is in the steering wheel. The horn is there also. A certified repair shop has to service this by law. The repair cost is really close to the actual. I would do without the horn myself.

Engine light on

If the engine light is on, have it scanned for codes. In 1998 an OBD-II Scanner (for 1996 and up vehicles) will work for it.
One can purchase one at Sears or Walmart for under $100 or one can have it scanned for free at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.

My 1998 LeSabre has the intermittent horn problem which is definitely temperature related. It likes to go off about 3 AM on a below 32 F evening and nobody in or near the vehicle. It occasionally starts...

You are correct in your diagnosis, unfortunally it is an expensive fix because you are dealing with the air bag assembly. This was a issue on several Gm cars, when they were under warrenty we would just replace the whole thing, but having to pay for it that's a whole different story.Your only other option is to put a remote horn switch on the side of the steering column and bypass the horn pad /air bag

1998 Buick LeSabre Ltd . The gas tank is leaking. I was told there is a crack in it. You can smell the fumes when the air conditioner is on. Where can I take it for repairs? I live in Marietta, GA.

Usually you shouldnt get these tanks repaired because you cant "well" gas tanks because they are made of plastic. And secondly they are pressurized when the vehicle is running. Take it to a buick, Gmc,chevrolet, or Poniac dealer. They should give you an estimate first then you can decide whethor or not you want to continue with the replacement of the gas tank.

IAT means Intake Air Temp sensor. O2 is reffering to the Oxygen sensor. These are two different sensors on your vehicle. These perform different functions.

I think he may have just bent the connection that activates the horn. Does it honk when you turn the wheel one way or the other? Try that and let me know what the out come is.
