Non start can be a million reasons. The computer must be scanned to get a fault code. Borrow one or hire one from autozone and come back when you have the engine codes from the computer. These are like P0100, P401 etc...they are called P-codes so if you tell autozone what is your problem they can hire you a machine to read them. Only then can you diagnose the fault. You need to say what your vehicle is too, make, model, year.

Just put a difrent engine and the car no want star

No start? Does it crank and just not start? The places I like to check first are coil pack, cam sensor, crank sensor. I have had a car not start due to crank sensor before.

This is a classic example of a failed or failing antitheft system. Changing out the ignition can cause this. And maybe the ignition you pulled out was failing also. Go to this link, I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for.

For a number of reasons, I'd stay away from it-it is not going to be great on gas, if it currently has no cam sensor, how can you determine if it runs properly? Although 136,000 miles is not a lot for a 93, if it has not been taken care of (oil changes, tuneups, trans maintanence, etc.) it wil just be a money pit. At the very least, the car should be running, and inspected (which would necessitate replacing the missing muffler). Ask that the car be inspected after the muffler and cam sensor are repaired by a mechanic of your choice, that should probably open your son's eyes to the condition of the vehicle, good or bad. I have a lot of experience with cars, and buying a 'beater' or project car is always a gamble, especially if it does not run. A car that does not run is generally worth scrap only, so $550 it too high.

its possible the cam sensor or the crank shaft position sensor maybe broken or coming apart. the cam sensor is part of the timing chain.

    Running poorly

A sudden drop in "rmp" like that is more likely a spark problem not a fuel problem. I would suggest a crank or cam sensor peoblem. Good Luck

    Cam sensor

Well most cam sensors are set at an exact location no adjustment, but if you havent got a repair manual for the specific car you are working on then .050 inches is normally the clearance on cam sensors. So try hat and let me know how ya did... Hope that does it for ya
