It is and it isn't. If you have the tools...only 1 special tool required really, you could do it. There is a lot of things that need to be removed....that's the easy part. Putting everything back properly is another story.

I can post the whole thing for you to let you make the decision but if you don't have a variety of tools, I wouldn't attempt this one. I also understand about the money but the best thing you could do is maybe have someone help that is mechanically inclined to help out....maybe buy them a case of beer for their help.

I need to change timing belt is it hard to change I am a single mom and cant afford to pay a mechanic I am going to attempt to do it myself please help mom with no money

It would depend alot on the make model and year of the car, and your mechanical ability. You should first buy a repair book and study the procedure to see if you think you are up to the challenge. And if you have the right tools or not. A timing belt job is not for the average DIY.

Hi Andy here not sure if you can help be email but i thought i would give it a shot!! i have a 96 gt legacy ej20h, twin turbo, Manuel, bg5, tried to save myself some money and just did cam belt water...

I have a ej25 in the back yard, I'm going to go and look at it, OK, I'm back, I found the timing mark on the crank pulley pointing straight up at the little notch in the casting, and the number one piston at top dead. The heads are out on it so I can't tell you about that. Hope this helps. I know it is hard to get in there, even to do the spark plugs, let alone the belt and water pump.

I WOULD SUGEST YOU BUY A SERVICE AND REPAIR MANUAL FOR YOUR 200 AUDI A6 AS CHANGING A TIMING BELT WRONG WILL SCRAP YOUR CAR , IF YOU DO BUY A MANUAL YOU CAN SAVE A LOT OF MONEY BUY REPAIRING YOUR CAR YOURSELF, GOOD LUCK.

Question about timing belt

the factory wants the belt changed at 90,000 miles, u are living on borrowed time, if the belt breaks it can damage the crankshaft position sensor and that is more money, $500.00 is a little high shop around some more for a better prive $400 is reasonable, it is a gravy job as we say..

I want to fix it myself b/c im poor-how?

It is very important that you know exactly what you are doing when you replace a drive-belt pulley! It is possible that if you get the timing wrong that your engine will fail! The alternator can be replaced with little knowledge but if your car starts and runs then there is no problem with the alternator nor the timing. If your belt looks worn down or has fray marks on it then i would suggest to change it. Also, unless the tensioner is cracked or broken there is no need to replace that.
