Check the filter; likely the fuel filter is clogged so you need to change it. If you can keep the engine running by pumping throttle a few times at start up, and then it runs.

Also, its possiblke that you need check (or replace) the IDLE Air Control Valve because it did stay running until it was warm.

Tell us news.

I had the fuel filter replaced recently. Could it have been installed incorrectly?

Also I suggest check your relays (EEC and Fuel Pump); they are located in the engine compartment fuse box (page 276 and next). When the
relays age the coil will become weak and the contacts inside the relay
corrode. The PCV tube which is located at the rear of the engine has two vacuum
fittings that collapse and this will cause stalling. The Mass Air Flow sensor is prone to becoming contaminated with dirt and
oil and will also cause stalling problems.

    Good luck.

The fuel filter juts have one way to install, is so hard that you have mistake there; confirm with this procedure...

Also, check the vacumm hose behind throttle body to the PCV valve, cracked is common.

To see if that might be the cause, I would have to tell the guys at PEP BOYS to look into it. Thanks, kwilliams18

My van won't start after driving a short distance, it will start again after 3 to 5 minutes but then will act like it's going to stall while I'm driving. What's wrong?

Hi Greg, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair in St Charles Mo

Greg, I read your complete message, but nowhere did I see that you replaced the Cam Sensor. The EGR will cause it to stall at stops but usually will not prevent it from restarting. I would try replacing the Cam Sensor before anything else. If you should need further assistance go to my website by clicking here: Auto Repair

My car was idling ruff when stopped, but fine while driving. The check engine light never came on. MY mechanic ran a test said airflow sensor was bad and changed it. When driving away the check engine...

the fact that the car runs well indicates that it is not the ECM ( brain to mechanics who have little idea)
take the vehicle to an accredited service center who has experience on your make of vehicle and have the fault codes read and then fix the faults reported

My friends mom called me, her grand maquis will only start in neutral. plus all the head and tail lights are completely out

you need to start with the neutral lock out switch, it is connected to the shifter mechanism. it keeps the starter from being engaged unless the shifter is in park or neutral, and turns on the back up lights when in reverse. it may also have a switch to release the parking brake.

1999 Mercury Mystique. Was occasionally stalling, but would start up again right away. Had a problem with overheating, but got better when the radiator was flushed. Out and about, the car started...

Hi! First of all check the radiator and auxillary fans for they may be blowing weak, have it replaced to cool down the engine better. Faulty water pump can cause overheating too, you will need to replace this for better engine coolant circulation. Check the timing belt/chain before cranking the engine again for if this is torn down it will damage the engine. IF the timing belt/chain is fine then I suspect the rotors and distributor cap. If this is faulty there will be no electric current to the spark plug to start up the engine. Hope this helps and have a good one!

The truck starts up and during traffic driving or idling, the truck just dies. I need to stop and place in park and restart the engine. A few moments of minutes later, if left idling, the engine will stall...

the gas cap can make your check engine light come on do to not enough vaccum in the take for your evap system and it could cause the vehicle to run a little funny. but highly unlikly this is your problem.if there are no trouble codes or no check engine light this could be very hard to diagnose on-line you may want to take it to a respectable mechanic and have them run an on board diagnostic test on it
