Question about 1995 Chevrolet Camaro

2 Answers

I have a 1995 Camaro and it was stored inside over the winter. I had an oil change done before it was stored. I have been driving it for a couple of months now and yesterday as I was driving the "Low Oil" light came on. I had the car picked up and they said that it is leaking oil and the oil was all over the engine. They said that they had to shampoo the engine and they put in a dye so they would be able to tell where the oil is leaking from. They also told me to drive it for a couple of days and then take it back to them to check it. Does this make sense to you?

That is exatcly what I would do. The dye can be seen with a UV light and that will show where the leak is. It is most likely a minor problem, when the car sits over the winter hoses and gaskets can dry out and crack. I hope this helps you.

YES. just be sure to keep your oil level checked. the dye will show up under a black light and sometimes on engines that are dirty it helps diagnose where the leaks source is . Sounds like your mechanic is on top of the problem and trying to correctly diagnose it without selling you a bunch of repairs

Check the oil, the low oil sensor will disable the ignition if more than a quart low. Next change the air filter, a dirty air filter can put the MAF ( mass airflow) sensor out range. Next change the fuel filter. A cough or back fire is an indication of fuel starvation. Always do the cheapest fixes first. Perform an OBDII scan for stored fault history before buying parts you don't need.

Oil pressure guage went nuts

Check the sending unit wire for grounding, You may have a bad sender as well. If the problem persists, put a mechanical gauge on it and check actual pressure...that will tell you if you need to go inside the engine to fix it. Usually you will find the problem in the sensor.

Low oil pressure light is on

Until u have a mechanical test gauge hooked up to verify the oil pressure is ok assume it is not a good idea to drive, low oil press will destroy a $4000.00 engine very quickly.
