Question about 1993 Plymouth Laser

2 Answers

I just bought a 1993 Plymouth Laser ES and the lady said the battery was bad, so i picked a new one up on the way there. well. it ran. but i know i need an alternator. well heres the problem, I started it up, and it was extremely loud and idling at around 2k, so when shifting from (D) or (R) or to any other gear, it jerks really hard. 3 problems, HIGH idle, LOUD(not the muffler, its coming from the motor, kinda like a intake sound idk), and the jerking when shifting. ... another thing to add, it starts off really slow, even if i have it floored, and shakes. any ideas guys ?

Hi,

I would put an alternator on it and see how it acts then. it sounds like a combination of things. depending on the model, it may have a malfunctioning or siezed turbocharger. If you find out its not a turbocharged issue I would tune it up, new plugs plug wires, injectors, filters. you probably have vacuum leaks also. Its hard to tell you what to do because there are so many options you may or may not have If it ends up being the turbo AWD model I would have it lubed up immediately before you drive it anymore.

my brother had a mitsubishi cordia and it ran untill he sold it. if you look at wikipedia you can see the similiarities there.

1993 Plymouth Laser Es, Im having trouble starting it, it cranks over just fine, but when it goes to start, it just sputters for a second or two then shuts back off... its like an idle of about 200rpms for...

This sounds like you have a plugged "pre cat". This item sits just below the exhaust manifold and is a common item to plug and cause the engine to be
'choked" as so it will not run or if it does run, the acceleration is very very poor. Also if it is that bad and can keep it running fromunder the hood, you should see it glow cherry red. Have this replaced.

I have a 1993 Plymouth Laser and it wont start. It will turn over but no spark. I tried to do the on ACC on ACC On and the check engine will not blink any codes. Any suggestions?

crank sensor, PCM, or Ignition module could be bad You car may have a ign fuse or ecm fuse that could of popped. Now if your not sure it has spark then you could have a fuel issue. If someones sprays a little brake cleaner in the Throttle body and it starts then you have a pump issue. If it still doeant fire up then you know for sure you have a spark issue.

The code on the inside of the trunk is for the keyless entry touch pad. The radio will require further diagnostics. Be sure to check all fuses for radio and amplifier. It should have a separate audio amplifier, they have been known to go bad, possibly what ran the battery dead to begin with.

1993 plymouth laser

This is a interference motor. If the timing belt broke the valves will have fallen in to the cylinder and you will need over hall. Yes it is true so you will also need a head to this motor . call a local repair shop to confirm . If it is a SOCH or DOCH 2.0 I am sure of it . Now you can get lucky but it is rare. if it sounds like a sewing machane when you try and start it then it is broke for sure.
