The only fault is 0420. where do i start? relay,fuel pump,or cps?

Silly question

You got the code PO-420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

That is the converter,don't these places people go to ,tell you what codes they pulled?

O2 Sensors
Coolant Temp Sensor
High Fuel Pressure
Bad Converter
Cylinder Misfire
Damaged Exhaust System Pipe/Muffler
High Oil Consumption
Etc, Etc

Runs good, after 30 mins stalls no injector pulse and hard to start.after 10-15 mins starts again, spark OK. changed fuel pump,distributor. Same


run the fault codes and check for problem ECM
There is an electronic component failure in the injector circuit that when over heats , shuts that injector circuit down
try replacing the ECM with a known good unit

I have a 1997 SAAB 2.0 Turbo and it has started to run rough after it warms up and when driving it loses power and runs very rough until power taken off. Any ideas?


suspect low fuel pressure to the injectors
run the fault codes to determine where the fault may be before you spend money

Losing power and dying.


Yes it could be the coil or a number of other electrical components.
You would need to figure out if you have lost spark to the plugs or fuel pressure when the engine quits. It could be a relay, the fuel pump, the coil or igniter, or a long list of other things.

Car cuts out after 15 mins run wont restart untill 45 mns later


Sounds like a part is heating up and failing. You can borrow a fuel pressure gauge from any Autoparts store with a tool loaner program. But you need to catch the problem as it happens. What I am getting at is if your lose fuelpump pressure and then the pump cools down and works again, you will briefly have low or zero pressure.

An electrical problem this closely resembles is a bad coil. Bad coils act this way. They lose power, cool down, and then work again. One thing would be to open the hood of your car when it fails. Leave the hood open and try starting after 15, 30, minute intervals. If cooling helps, then change the coil.

Another item is a Relay. Pretty much the same response as a coil, and an open hood would help too. Could be a Igntion Relay or Fuel pump Relay.

No crank and stall condition when hot


Swap the fuel pump relay with the A/C relay and see if the problem continues. the A/C relay and the fuel pump relay are the same. If it continues, the fuel pump may be getting overheated and will intermittently shut down. The CPS will certainly do something similar but you wouldn't have spark either.

replace fuel pump relay.if it still loses power. check fuel pump pressure.if all good scan it check for egr valve going bad.

Quite a few things can cause a car to die after idling for awhile, but if you have verified that the fuel pressure is actually dropping when the motor dies, the likely culprits are:
1) Electric fuel pump in the gas tank is bad
2) The fuel pressure regulator (on the throttle body) is bad
3) An electrical problem in the power to the fuel pump (like a bad fuel pump relay or lose ground wire to the relay's circuit)

well that sounds like a relay. if your car is an automatic, double check than you replaced the ASD and fuel pump relays and not the trans control relay.
if its not the relay, its probably the ECU(PCM).
