Yes I did a breif research to understand whether replacing the lifters would resolve the issue. I think your technician is doing the correct thing.

Audi a4 1998 tapping noise only when idles under valve cover

Sounds like a bad valve lifter or a valve out of adjustment. It's probably a bad hydraulic valve lifter. In idle, when the oil pressure is lowest, it is not filling with oil. When the motor revs up, oil pressure rises and fills the faulty lifter.
If you do have mechanical lifters, the valve is probably out of adjustment. If you do car work, pull the valve cover and see if it's adjustable. Of course, you'll need the specs from VW/Audi.
Otherwise, it's probably a shop job.

How do i tighten a lifter on a 2003 ford expedition

-You should have some one know about car to do this. This is valve lifter. Some car can't adjust, have to use shim.
-Why it make noise...? Because its contact worn out and too much
clearance that why.

Good luck

Valve chatter in the mornings when it is cranked. but sometimes during the day also. Someone told me to get vaves adjusted. how can i adjust them myself?

Hi Nick, Valve noise will be there all the time, unless the vehicle has hydrolic lifters. if it has then the lifters should be replaced. If it has adjustments you can check the clearance with a feeler gauge, but I believe the sound is more likely to be low oil pressure. this can be caused by the wrong oil filter having been fitted or the oil pump becoming weak. The third reason is wear on the connecting rod or main engine bearings. With mechanical adjustable followers the noise will be steady at all times and not disappear . As you haven't named the vehicle or engine type it's a little difficult to be explicit. Regards Johngee10

Top of the engine is ticking. friend told me it could be a valve that is clogged or stuck open and thats its not a huge problem but it might be mixing gas and oil. to me that sounds like a problme....

It sounds like hydraulic lifter noise. The lifters open and shut the valves and can be helped by using a good synthetic oil and frequent oil changes. Lash is the clearance between the valves and lifters.

How do I tighten the valves down? its making a

Ford valves are not adjustable, something is wrong. There are oversized pushrods that can be installed, but something is wrong to have valve noise, unless they backed off, somehow.

2.7 liter engine has a miss. replaced plugs, fuel filter, egr switching selinoid, and downflow o2 sensor. Was told by mechanic that they have found that valves needed to be adjusted.

Before you spend that much more money - replace the distributor cap and rotor (if equipped). If it has a coil pack (or packs) have it (them) tested. Also, under the pack(s) will be a modular. This cannot be tested however, if it looks melted (whitish), or you see bubbles, it is bad. It should have a smooth sleek surface on the top.

If these are not the problem, than the mechanic is right - and you may need to have the lifters adjusted - valves replaced - if you're going to have them adjusted, personally, I'd have the valves, rods and lifters replaced; if it's affordable. If not, have them adjusted.

Have the mechanic decide which would be best (and use your jugement/ go with your instincts - based on your vehicle mileage.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

Do the valves need periodic adjustments in a 1999 Chevy suburban and how many valves per cylinder

The valves never need adjusted, .Do to hydraulic lifters and zero clearance. The rocker arms are torqued to 35 ftlbs. So you never have to worry about it.If there is a noise have your lifters checked:)

Ticking noise from engine

You might have a bad hydraulic valve lifter (assuming this engine has them)... you could try an aftermarket product designed to unstick valve lifters.... any auto parts store carries them.

Mechanic said valve lifters need to be replaced

valve lifters make a kind of rattly knocking noise! which sort of follow engine revs.if they are gone you may need a new camshaft as well, best to do itr all at the same time and are sold as a kit.are you sure there is a new noise or are you just listening harder?

Engin sound

first of all if you need to find a mechanic or shop which you can be familiar with ask around where do friends /clients take car trying to guess your problem by e mail is not accurate. valve train noise ,lifters should be adressed with a hot oil flush cleaner for 15 minutes followed by a new oil filter and fresh oil for a small fee before condeming the valves /camshaft for a large bill
