Question about Dodge Ram Pickup 2500

2 Answers

2002 dodge ram 2500 quadcab, running problem, truck starts fine but when you start to drive it starts a popping noise in the throttle body. If you hit the gas pedal many times in a row you can stop it from popping. It almost seems like it is acting like something is sticking or hanging up and then releases and truck drives fine for awhile until you shut it off for a period of time and start it up and drive it happens again. parts i replaced are temp sensor, dist. cap, rotor, plugs and wires. cleaned intake and tested fuel pressure is 50 pounds. cleaned fuel rail and injectors. running out of options before i take it to the dodge dealer. i have talked to three different technicians online, looking for a dodge expert?

I would look at replacing the pick up coil in the distributor, the hall effect switch(pick up coil)in the dodge has been around a long time, but give some problems, not much, but some.It is used to start the vehicle of course, but it ,upon start up directs signal for timing upon start up,and sometimes, when they go bad, they do not signal correctly, and then the crankshaft sensor takes over, and the engine runs fine ,until start up again, after start up,the ecm converts to messages, all, from the crankshaft sensor.

does this part have to be replaced by the dealer or can i do this myself? is it under the distributor cap or do i have to pull the distributor out?

The distributor has to be removed to do this, but just mark where the distributor rotor button is pointing exactly, and mark the distributor body,to the engine, and remove the distributor, and use the marks to go by to put the distributor back in,just do not turn the ignition key,or engine before you put the distributor back in.

will the pick up coil cause the popping noise inside the throttle body, seems to only happen after starting and then starting to drive and then i can get it to go away. the popping noise is almost like a small backfire is happening.

I have seen it do this, but ,if we go with electrical,,,now if fuel injectors do not spry the fuel on time,or very little, this can happen also, have you used a fuel cleaner? If not try this first,I have fixed problems like this before with this sort of problems,,one bottle of Lucas fuel treatment and two bottles of Heet, the heet will dry up any moister in the fuel while the Lucas cleans the injectors,it is best to use it with less fuel as possible for consentrated affect. This would be my first thing ,I would do in your case, fuels are really bad now,and have contaminates, and water, and engines will run, like yours until the injectors are cleaned out, then the contaminates will settle back around the intake screen on the fuel pump.

Hi
The popping noise is often for a ball joint and then the wheel just falls off. Have the ball joints inspected for excessive wear. Quite often clicking noise is from the front axle union (U-joint). You can see them, one per side, using a tool similar to a long screw driver and gently prying upward is one way to see if there is play in the u-joint. When they get worn they may click, snap or clunk, but usually click in 2WD.

2004 Ram 2500 starts, low idle 400 rpm and stalls, any ideas?

With out see it running on a scanner. Maybe the IAC or throttle body. Does it have any codes. Did you erase codes after rebuild? Any time I do a rebuild on engines and transmission, the codes have to to erased. Other wise you are trying to run a new part on old PCM codes. Codes have to be erased.

My 2001 dodge 2500 5.9 gas engine wont stay running you have to keep giving it throotle

Having to keep the throttle plat open could be 2 things (just to start). one, the air filter is clogged(like really dirty). The other is the idle air control motor is dirty or not working. Clean the throttle body and idle air control motor with brake clean. Use a toothbrush and clean inside as best as you can. It will take a second or two to start. Then spray the brake clean in the throttle at higher RPM's.

Rough idle when out of gear, fine when driving

Sounds like the throttle body needs cleaned, remove the air inlet tube from the throttle body, hold the throttle open and clean the inside of the throttle body and butterfly with some carb cleaner and a rag untill there is no more black sutt.

2008 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi. Electronic Throttle Control light is on. No accelerator response. Idles fine. Starts fine.

You need the dealer on this one, sorry but since the part is sold as the entire throttle assembly and it is very expensive it must be properly diagnosed. Do not just throw a new throttle body on the engine as it may not fix the problem.

I have a 1994 dodge ram 1500 318 engine that suddenly started running rough as of yesterday and check engine light comes on?

I would start with the throd body and Mass Air Flow system for build up, do not listen to anyone who tells you that low grade gasoline is ok for you to use, your engine will not perform well on it and will cause a sticky residue on the throd body and MAF sensor. Also it is critical that you keep your truck with a clean air filter and service with oil changes and spark plugs as needed, follow dodge reccomendations, I learned the hard way 1994 Dodge Ram PU 1500 Quad and 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 PU both were the same way, they both had trouble with AC and Radiators as well.

hope this helps

Fuel System

If you remove air intake hose at throttle body, and spray WD-40 in throttle body , and it starts, you have a fuel problem. WD-40 works like quick start spray, only a little easier on the engine.
