Question about 2002 Kia Rio

1 Answer

Hi I have an 02 Kia Rio with 115,000 miles. The manual transmission shifting has become very stiff and I was told I need to replace the linkage bushings. I have called a few parts stores and nobody seems to be able to find this part. Any advice on doing the job and finding the parts would be appreciated. Thanks

It will be a factory item. Last time I just used a bunch of washers.

It could be something minor like a broken linkage, or something serious like, you need a tranny rebuild. You'll need a reputable shop to troubleshoot.

My manual 5 speed shift is loose. I just replaced the clutch 50000 miles ago.,when i had my oil changed last, they said i needed transmission fluid. Should i remove the 15/16's plug

no.. there is no need for that, also get your gear linkages changed as they might be loose.... and also top up ur transmission fluid as it will worn out your gears

2001 Kia rio automatic but it sounds like a standard, like I need to shift gears. Transmission ????

If it doesnt shift at proper speeds when its driving, then yes, the transmission. Make sure the fluid is full when engine at operating temp., idle. in park. If it's full, and no obvious shifter linkage problems, then you need to have it looked at by a transmission shop.

2001 Kia Rio 121,000mi manual transmission. Problem: drivetrain does not move vehicle while in any gear. Visually observed shift linkage and cluch cable they look and feel o.k. Suspect clutch assemble....

everything everyone has said could be right...But! I bet that the shift pin assembly that your linkage hooks to needs looked at. I have a Kia that I had to replace. My son hit the curb and drove about a mile then when he shifted he could'nt get it back into gear. I took out the tranz and found that the shift pin assembly needed replaced. so you might as well replace the cluch and every thing else wile you have it all apart. Hope this helps

I have the same car, the only solution to this problem is to tighten the clutch cable nut just as necessary until you feel that you are able to shift smoothly without forcing it, make sure you start the car to test for that.

You might have to remove the air intake in order to access the clutch cable.

If you tighten the nut too much, your clutch will feel light and you will have clutch slips. So basically keep trying until you're there. You can loosen or tighten the nut while the car is running, I'd recommend.

2003 Kia Rio manual transmission, stick is stiff going from gear to gear. Not a clutch or transmission problem.

under the car there is a change control arm sometimes when that comes loose it makes it difficult to shift from gear to gear. the change control arm should be right under your shifter for repair info go to autozone.com sign up its free then click on repair manuals you will find all of your info there....good luck
