Oil not getting to top of engine

Vw bettle 53 reg 1.8 turbo
oil sitting in sump and not getting to top of engine

oil light flickered on and off and engine light came on. car would drive for 5 minutes then stall while driving then wouldnt start after that.
had car pluged in all it came up with was oxygen sensor.
been told car could do with a good service (oil/oil filter/engine flush or pipes could be blocked or oil pick up in sump could be blocked)
what would be the best place to start?
    thanks

Use a test gauge and check oil pressure. You may have a defective pump.

If you really have no oil presuure as I understand your saying then I'm assuming the oil pressure indicator light is on.

With that ,what you will need is a pressure gauge hooked to the engine to see what really is happening ,,unless you have engine issues that would prohibit you from starting the engine.

Then since you made it this far I would then go to mitchell1diy or alldata and buy a subscription for $10 to $30 depending on which site has your TDI model. This way you will be able to diagnose this properly and also you will have all the fixit procedures.

Anyways hope this helps.

I just told you where to begin. You need the proper tools to be able to check the pressure and you prabably need an oil service to begin with. If you have no oil pressure then you will need to remove the oil pump and most likely replace it. Were assuming you do not have an engine sludge issue that is blocking your oil passages. If you do have a oil sludge issue then your most likley looking at replacing the engine. All we can do is guess here, If you have an issue we can't see then no matter what we suggest it won't fix it. You really need this professionally looked at if you want this fixed correctly.

Why does oil light turn red and beeps when stooping at light and then comes on and beeps continuesly after driving awhile on my 2002 Volkswagon Beetle Turbo S?

First check the oil level. pull out dipstick with engine off, wipe, and re-"dip" it to see . If the level is O.K., it may be serious . See a mechanic.

Check that the oil filter is a genuine one as after market units do not always have an anti drain back valve which allows the oil to drain back to the sump and when you start up, the oil galleys have to be filled up first to get oil pressure to shut off the light.

General rules of thumb: Low speed engine on acceleration with smoke in the exhaust plume = worn piston rings High speed engine accelerating (spooled up turbo) with smoke = oil form turbo bearing and/or piston rings Engine on over run (coasting down, foot off the gas) with smoke = oil from valve guides. VW/Audi make good engines with tight tolerances so none of the above should apply at 62K miles; just make sure that the oil (the right oil) and oil filter are changed regularly.

I have a 2002 VW Jetta TDI and am problems with turbo.

Hallo
1.Disconect lower hose from intercooler and oil (from 0,1 liter or more) (sometimes 1-2 liters) comes out, you should not drive it.(car had probably loose power) Change the turbine, oil and oil filter. do not forget to disconect lower hose and let oil drain out. Otherwise when new turbine is instald, the air flow will **** this oil inside the engine and distroy it.
2.your car is not designed to run without turbine and will not work like normal disel.(SDI).
hope it helps

Need to change the oil pressure sqitch on a vw passat

Hi before you do an oil change try seafoam in the engine oil. this can sometimes fix the problems you are having, I used seafoam in engine oil and fuel and breather line and ran engine for 100 miles, but don't run hard, and its cleaned all the sump and oil veins in the engine, as checked with a scope looking though the oil sump plug. it did a really good job, my engine is a bit older than yours 1994. oil sensor is at the bottom of the engine on the sump. pressure sensor is above the oil filter it has a single wire conection

The VW specs for oil is way over-hyped.

Use a Brand Name Full Synthetic 10W40 oil and you'll be OK.

I Put 6.28 quarts of oil in my 2000 sport jeep cherokee when I changed the oil, will It hurt my jeep

If it is just a bit above the high mark on the dipstick then no it should'nt. If you have a turbo fitted then it's best to drain out the extra as the engine oil return pipe from the turbo empties into the sump. If the sump is over filled then the oil cannot get back to the sump it then builds up back the pipe and as the oil has to go somewhere if it cannot get to the sump it will be forced through the seals in the turbo it is then sucked into the intake. If this happen's then a recon. turbo at the least and if a lot of oil is sucked into the cylinders it can't be burned off so will seize the engine.

My 2002 Bettle TDI has very black oil after 5000 km Why?

City driving is about the hardest thing you can do to engine oil. If your primary driving is city driving it would be advisible to cut the oil change duration by a third to help keep it clean.

Engine knocking on toyota corolla after replacing damaged sump

oil pan and sump damage are very likely to lead to oil distribution problems, this is not temporary, if you hear a knock have it checked by a local mechanic who can verify it for you, it is possible that the engine is damaged internally.

Try a VW car and van Breaker. You may need to take the pipe of the breakers car, so take some tools with you. You could try a motor factors other than VW. Hope that helps you.
