Car usually is not turning on. I hear clicks from under the hood, but engine doesn't crank. Battery is good. Any ideas?

The solenoid on the starter is broken. Try knocking on the starter if you can see it, sometimes it will engage and start. But it must be replaced.

That clicking you hear when try to crank is the starter solenoid. Replace it and roll on.

No start, no crank

If the starter won't engage, you can't crank the engine. You would only hear the starter operating freely. The replacement starter may have to be shimmed to fully engage the ring gear. Also, did you verify that the ring gear is OK?

I have 1996 grand caravan 3.8. I replaced the starter and it wont crank over, starter just spins

Do a voltage drop on the solenoid

You either don't have battery voltage or
two bad starters,or some flywheel issue

Will not start, have replaced battery, Starter, sounds like starter is not engaging.

Does the vehicle crank over? or does it make a grinding sound like the gear isn't contacting. If your hearing a grinding noise chances are the flex plate are missing teeth that the starter engages. Only way to replace that is to remove transmission. If your hearing a clicking noise check to make sure the battery connections are tight and the terminals are clean.

Freelander unable to start at turn of key,

Does the starting solenoid engages? This is would sound like a deep clunk on your starter. When the solenoid engages it close the contact that energize the starter motor, but a worn contact on the solenoid would result in it engaging but not having enough current to turn the engine resulting in a clunking noise when you try to start.
The starter solenoid gets its 12 volt from a relay. This is referred to as the starter relay. If you try to crank, and you hear only a click but the starter do not turn, then the contacts on the relay maybe worn.
To sum it up, if you hear a loud clunk when it dont crank, its the starter solenoid. If you hear just a click but no crank, it could be the starter relay.

Car starts but sometimes makes a whirling noise. I was told it was the starter

sounds like the starter is not disengaging the fly wheel quickly like it should when you turn the key the starter cog connects upto a fly wheel that has teeth all around it when the teeth of starter cog connect between teen on wheel it spins it to crank your car then goes back to starter if you hold your key on after starting the noise you hear is the starter cog(teeth ) still engaged in wheel if this is the sound it needs to be serviced not neccassarily replaced
