did not check fuel pump, fuel pump fuse is okay. how can i check the fuel pump

  • Boneebone May 25, 2010

When you turn the key to on, but not start, you should be able to hear the electric fuel pump working in the fuel tank, if not you can also disconnect the leads to the fuel pump and run a jumper wire from the battery or any 12volt source and see if the pump turns on.

Hey i have a 2000 saab 93 turbo converable, it has full battery but wont turn over i cant tell if its the starter or if its a relay or something what do yu suggest i do

clean batt. terminals and cable ends. try it now. next, swap relays with one from junkyard. try it. oops, forgot the BIG 1, try it in neutral and/or jiggle shifter. could very well be a bad connection on neutral safety switch. if manual trans, may be bad connect on clutch pedal. it's under dash, high on clutch pedal. jumper either one.

2000 Pontiac sunfire won't start makes no noise when turn key over . headlights and radio work and dome light .. I have replaced steering column and ignition switch

This could be a couple different things causing your No-start condition. first thing I would check (Battery is good) access the starter solenoid, the small single wire connection is the start signal. Test for 12 volts here with DVOM or test light while someone turns the key. If there is 12 volts reading, the starter solenoid is defective. If there isn't 12 volts reading check all the fuses (with test light).
The second item causing the trouble could be the Neutral Safety Switch (Auto Trans) or Clutch Safety Switch (Manuel Trans) These could be open or out of adjustment.
Hope this helps you...

I have a 98 toyota tacoma sr5 4 cylinder..i have replaced the battery, starter and now the ignition switch..still have problem starting..i already spent $340 on parts

You are using the "shotgun" method of diagnosis-shooting parts at it until it's fixed.I refused to do this as a dealer tech, which is why I don't fix cars for a living any more.(In the auto dealer warranty repair world, you are paid for replacing parts, not for diagnosis time.) However, since you have replaced the most expensive pieces already, why not round it up with a neutral safety switch(or clutch pedal switch-you didn't specify an auto or manual trans)? I had many automatic trans vehicles that would not start in park, but would in neutral. Some "PRNDL" switches are adjustable, not sure about yours. If you do have an auto trans, try cranking the starter while pushing/pulling the shifter. If this makes the trouble come and go,you are probably on the right track.

Turn key on, but doesnt even click. battery and starter are fine

This may be due to a bad neutral safety switch, is this car automatic or manual transmission?

If automatic try to start in neutral and if manual try to locate switch on clutch pedal and use a jumper wire to jump connector for switch, NOTE; If switch is jumped car will start in gear with pedal not pushed down and car will take off so this is just as a test not a repair!!!!!, good day

New battery new starter nothing happens when i turn the key

You definitely have a starting system problem. You have two circuits - Battery to starter circuit & the Starter Control Circuit (Ignition switch, Transaxel Range Switch (if Automatic Trans), Starter Relay, Starter Clutch Pedal Position Switch (if manual Trans) Fuse & Starter Solenoid). Based on your description, the problem is in the Control Circuit.

Here's an illustration:

My 1990 Honda Accord won't start. I just replaced

i have two things that come to mind first of which is your neutral safety switch ...its located on the clutch pedal ..its to prevent the car from being started in gear it may not be working correctly and wont let power to the started when you turn the key...most likely the problem...the other thing if thats not it you may need to check the ignition switch...

88 s10 2.8 5 speed have power to lights, blower, radio, but wont turn over when turning key no clicking nothing wont even start or turn over by crossing solenoid

Since you have power to your accessories, here are a few more things to consider:
1: Automatic transmission not in park or the neutral safety switch is faulty
2: On manual transmissions clutch pedal not depressed or or clutch start switch failure
3: Broken or loose wires in the starting circuit. Inspect all wires and connectors at the battery, starter solenoid, and ignition switch
4: Starter motor pinion jammed in flywheel ring gear. Manual transmission. place transmission in gear and rock the vehicle to manually turn the engine. Remove starter and inspect pinion and flywheel

Clutch pedal, starter, ignition... where is the safety relay for the clutch pedal depression to allow start? 1994 Jeep YJ 4.0 this has happened twice

If you find the switch, you can temporarily jump across it, 'till you get a new one. When you go to buy it you are looking for a clutch switch.
Neutral switches are found on automatic trans vehicles. If you jump it out, be VERY careful to make sure you start in neutral with the clutch depressed as without the switch, it will start in any gear even with the clutch engaged.

1996 mitsubishi eclipse doesn't start when turning the key. had the starter tested, it was good. all the dash lights come on like normal, but nothing happens. Battery is good and fully charged. Any ideas.

check for voltage at the small start wire on the starter when cranking the engine--you will need someone help. If there is no voltage you may have a bad neutral safety switch ,which is on the trany have an automatic trans i assume.
If so try putting in neutral when cranking.

Power to ignition, wont start 83 Chev,4*4 auto tran. 350

Check neutral start switch. On stick cars, above clutch pedal. On auto trans, likely above steering post. If I remember correctly, has two 12ga purple wires going to it.
