The AC compressor clutch repeatedly tries to kick in when the AC is off (vent or defrost is on) in my 2006 Ford Ranger. What to do?

The ac compressor will cycle when in the defrost position. The system is designed this way, so that the freon will circulate at times in the system so the seals don't get hard or crack. Otherwise, you would have to replace the seals in your ac about once a year. If it is cycling too often then the freon may be liw and the system needs recharged. If your ac does not work and you are not going to repair the system. You can unplug the compressor so it won't come on and put a load on the engine.

Where is the recharge valve,to add freon on a ford escape 2002

should be located on the left side of the engine. You should see what I refer to as an AC dryer. There should be a place for adding freon.

My ac is blowing hot air. do i just need a freon recharge. how much does that typically cost?

Not necessarily you may have to test the freon pressure before charging. I would advise first to check the evaporator, the part of the AC under the dash. Sometimes it may just need cleaning. or it may also need replacement. IT may have gained holes.
