This model does not have an external fuel filter, there is a permanent fuel filter inside the gas tank that is not serviceable unless you want to remove the gas tank.
The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank. It is combined with the sending unit. The fuel filter is located unerneath the truck along the frame rail.
Unfortunatly most dakotas have an inline fuel filter, its located in the gas tank because there not supposed to need regular maintenance or changing. Basically you have to drop your gas tank to get the fuel filter out.
its your fule filter theres 2 of them i the 86 ford ranger you need to change them the location of the fule filters are on google just tipe in fule filter 1986 ford ranger location it should pop up there about 8 dollors a peace easy fix and your truck is like new also get a new battey if you havent k have a good day. oh i know this because i own one had the same problem
Your fuel filter is located on drivers side under vehicle on the gas lines around aboutwhere the back of your door is it is about 4 inches long and cylinder shaped.
