You need to find out what you are missing to make an engine run. Start with the easy ones, spark and fuel. If you have spark when cranking the engine, make sure you have fuel pressure and fuel is making it into the engine. The next thing is compression. An engine needs at least around 100 PSI to run well. The last thing is this needs to happen in the correct ratio at the correct time. If you have verified that you have fuel, spark, and compression check engine timing.
could be a number of thinks. spark plugs, as engine cold more fuel is added and if the spark is no good anymore it will not burn the fuel correctly in way fulds the spark plugs. other could be the fuel filter. and another can be the air filter. but would start with the spark plugs. most common problem. but if the others have not been done in a long time i would do them to. all these parts can restrict the engine.
Assuming your statements to be true about timing being correct and spark present, the only thing(s) remaining that can prevent starting are air intake (not likely) or insufficient compression. Insufficient compression is easily checked by performing a compression test of all cylinders. If the compression is good, check your airflow into the engine. If it is uneven or low on all cylinders, you either have to recheck your timing chain/belt setting or have very worn cylinders.
Since you have replaced most of the engine parts I would check you are getting a spark at plugs first and then fuel from pump! I think these are the most probable reasons for not starting!
As it seems you know it will always be fuel spark or compression. It seems you've ruled spark out (did you check the high tension leads for cracks or arcing?) Compression is easily checked with a tester.
I'm not convinced your fuel system is as robust as it needs to be though. Sure the relay was replaced, but how about the fuel pump itself? A weak or failing fuel pump might cause your problems, especially if the battery is marginal.
If the above information is correct.
1. Good Compression
2. Good Spark & Proper timing
3. Good fuel Pressure, injector pulse , injector spray, & fuel quality( no t contiminated)
4. Proper & clear air intake into engine
Then the likely cause would be a restricted exhaust. disconnect the exhaust at the manifold, and retry starting engine. keep me posted, we will make her run!
