I boughte a 1995 Wrangler YJ 4 wheel drive and the automatic trans is leaking between the inspection plate and the bellhousing. It is a steady drip while the jeeep is running. The Jeep will drive and appears to engage all gears. It appears to be sluggish or slipping. Is the front pump baffle clogged?

I work on older cars than this jeep like my 1969 & 1970 charger and they have a baffle at the top of the front pump. I thought this jeep would also have this feature. Haven't pulled the trans yet. Thought I would ask first.

Hi, its not that the pump is clogged. There is a seal that the torque converter seals against. this is the seal that is leaking. unfortunately you will need to take the trans out to change this seal.

Pull the trans and replace the pump seal. Check for updates and modifications to the pump or seal area.

No front pump baffle, you made that up!!

The 4 wheel drive in my 1995 Jeep YJ is not working. I will shift in to the 4H position and the 4x4 indicator will come on, but the system does not engage. Any clues?

Check the vacuum disconnect on the front axle. After 15 years, the lines break and/or get clogged. I have seen a few of the shift forks in there broken on Jeeps still wheeling with the stock Dana 30. There is a cable option which replaces the vacuum system if you dont want to worry about having the problem again. check Quadratec or 4WD hardware.

I cant put on gear when I start the engine.

Check the clutch master cylinder, the line to the slave cylinder on the bellhousing and the slave for leaks. If fluid is low there is a leak. Master can "bypass" as well similar to a brake master in which case it wont leak but the slave won't move when the clutch is applied. If that system is working then the clutch likely has worn out.

1987 Jeep YJ [Wrangler] so owner ship says''

Our Jeep Wrangler YJ's are equipped with a vacuum module on the front axle. It is used to engage the front axle when the transfercase is shifted into 4WD. Check the vacuum lines on the front axle to make sure they are connected. The passenger side axle shaft has a disconnect sleeve that is moved left and right by the vacuum.
