You will need to slide the center hump on dash directly above radio and vents backwards towards the widshield. You will notice a crease where the actual part containing vents meets the center hump that is just one piece itself. It should open up giving you access to the right side (passenger side) dash panel that has 5 or 6 screws (they are hex) that need to be removed. You will find the Cabin air filter under this panel after removing screws. it pulls out easily and the new one just sits back in place. Replace the screws and then align and slide the center hump back towards the back of car to lock into place. Relatively easy thing to do..

Fan switch 2000 beetle

Sounds like the blower resistor fuse link has popped.(not sure where the resistor is on a Beetle,but it is on the HVAC assembly somewhere-it requires airflow to keep the resistors cool).Most of the time the resistor overheats due to low airflow,if you replace the resistor,change the cabin air filter too.

I cant locate the cabin air filter on my 2008 VW Beetle. I went to the location and its not there. There is a musty smell coming from the vents.

Cant find cabin a/c filter on 2000 beetle

hi,
the cabin filter is located in the centre of the dash. access it from the top. the centre top trim slides away from you towards the windscreen. then there are two screws undre that, and the filter pulls up on one corner

2008 NEW BEETLE MUSTY SMELL FROM AC, WHERE DOES THE AC DRAIN GO THROUGH THE FIRE WALL

The drain should go through on the passenger side under the dash....you might need to replace your cabin air filter.

2001 1.8L turbo VW beetle replace the cabin air filter

Push the center piece, on the dash, forward until it unsnaps and exposes the screws for the passenger side piece. Take the piece off and you will see the filter bracket down in the dash. Remove the filter and replace with new one.
