Have you tried to push on the brake pedal when you are trying to shift the gear lever away from Park?
sorry to know that you did not find my solution useful. It would have helped if I had some more details to go with when you described the problem.
Happy to respond to your comment if you let me know what things you had done to get the car out from park gear. I felt the solution I provided you was the most appropriate considering the minimal information available to me.
we just went to drive our 2008 that we bought last month and it wont move out of park help please
Looks like you are not alone..based on the problems reported by other owners

Something to check quickly is whether your stop light is coming on when you press the brake. If not then there might be some fuse that needs checking up. As you would know the transmission stick has an interlock with the brake circuit. Also try to shake the car a bit and release gear at the same time.
But I guess some of the solutions discussed on the link above might be required. Looks like it is only $50 or so to fix.
Good luck.

There's a saftey cable attached to the brake. If that breaks or gets messed up you will not be able to get it out of park. There might be a key slot in the console, insert the ignition key, & try to move the gear shift. If you can get to neutral,it'll start & you can get it to a qualified shop, without a tow bill.

sounds like the lock for it broke either from the button on the shifter or from the pedal its only plastic i would take the shifter cover off and try it then and look at all the peices too see what is not working

Remove cup holder liner (rubber liner), stick your finger in the hole while attempting to shift out of gear. If this does not work, your tiny spring come off inside the assebly. I don't recommend buying a new one because it will just break again. There is a small pink (yes pink) lever with a small hook on it (or maybe not if it broke like mine) The spring pulls back the pink lever as you shift into reverse. If the spring is missing you will need to replace it. Just go to Lowes and buy a small one and cut it to size. You will need to drill a tiny hole in the pink lever to reattach it (much stronger than the original design). To access the assembly just unsnap everthing. The shifter knob pull straight up(do not twist but you can wiggle it a bit if needed). The shinny outer cover that blinds you while your driving just pull straight up. Take a credit card or small screwdriver to get it started and just pull it straight up. The rest is just clipped in and you should see the tabs to depress to release the PRNDL covers. The coil holder in front of the shifter just unsnaps as well. The outer cover that goes up around the cigerette lighter area just pulls straight toward you and unsnaps. No dager of breaking anything there. There are four nuts in the base of the assembly that bolt it to the floor (remove these so you can turn the assembly on it's side a bit). Look for the spring that should be attached to the pink lever on the left. If it's missing than your small hook broke like mine. Reattach a new one. You can shift it out of park by holding back on this pink thing while attempting to shift into reverse. There is a couple wire harnesses that I also had to disconnect.
Good job Chrysler!
