Starts and runs good when cold , shut engine off after motor gets hot , will not start back. After I let the engine cool down it will start back. When weather is cooler starting back is not a problem , runs and starts back great when weather is cooler. But in temps 60 and above problem occurs.Engine is 6 cylinder . 2 wheel drive.When starting and running problem occurs the engine acts like its not getting fire. Wants to start back but cant.This problem does not occur in winter months.

Get the starter motor checked first it's normal for starters to play up when they get hot from the heat of the engine l presume you've checked the battery

Could be a number of things...coil pack or ignition module would be a good place to start. If it's bad and gets hot, it can shut down until it cools off.

tune it up. (fresh spark parts work best in cold and for sure damp wheather.
fresh gas?
leaking injectors?
isc stuck closed, and rpm low, hot?

the ecu, anticipates the next cold start,
it knows how much to open the iSC valve, to get a good start cold
and if colder to day, it opens more. (math)
if it (ISC) is gummed up,fas all do, it cant start right
so next time, try %10 throttle, starting, emulating a good ISC.

check electronic spark unit ie coil pack going open circuit when hot
will run but when turned off will stay open circuit untill cools down then closed circuit then will wprk fine

Your AC system is supposed to shut down if the engine is hot, as a safety device-make sure when the ac is running , the radiator fan is blowing-it may not be, caused by either a bad relay, blown fuse or a bad fan motor. Make sure your antifreeze is fully up to level, and if you haven't done it in the past 2 or 3 years, get the cooling system serviced with a new thermostat-cheap insurance, you do NOT want to overheat that aluminum engine, because if you do, it will be toast.

The problem is the engine coolant temperature sensor malfunction.

Check to see if the radiator fan is coming on when the van gets hot.If it does not then on a 2.6 liter engine.look on the bottom part of the radiator on drivers side for a fan switch that could be bad and not letting the radiator fan to come on. On a 3.0 liter engine the coolant temperature sensor is screwed into the thermostat housing. And on a 3.3 liter and on a 3.8 liter engine the coolant temperature sensor is screwed into the front cylinder head. Anyone of these can cause the van to run hot and eventually die with no restart until the temperature has cooled down. Check the fan first with two jumper wires from the positive/negative post to the fan connector on a 2.6 liter engine (positive wire to open pin on plug,negative wire to insulated plug side. On all v6 engines hook jumper wires to motor. To the left side will be positive and negative to the right. Do not let both wires touch together while testing. If motor does not respond to direct wiring then replace it. Another thing to look at is the catalytic converter on van. Check the exhaust flow when the van is running cold and again when it gets hot. If the flow starts to slow down when the van gets hot then remove the converter(plugging up). After doing that run the van again to see if the van runs ok. Hope this will help you.

well it might overheat because air got into system, replace the thermostant and then fill system, run van keepin an eye on the temp, it will start to run hot because coolant has not filled the motor just the radiator, when it starts running hot shut it down, wait 3 minutes and start, now this is done with cap off,after restart coolant should get sucked in get filling radiator as needed,may get messy but got to bleed cooling system. hope thius helps.

do you mean wont crank over and start till it cools off? if thats the case it sounds like you got a bad crankshaft position sensor,,thge sensor is fine when its cold and warm but when it gets hot it goes open and the cars computer cant see the rpm and shuts the engine off,and then when it cools off the sensor works again and the car starts and is ok till it gets hot again,if thats the case thats what it is,,,hope this helps,,,about $100 for the part

check the timing or the cam
