Car continues to ding even though seatbelts connected and doors are all closed

The door micro switches that also serves a housing for the locking mechanism have either failed or are stuck or worn out. This switches tells the ECU if the door is open (courtesy door light on) or off. It can be replaced buying the whole mechanism (VW OEM Part) or replacing the micro switch with equivalent switches (Non VW Part).

1999 VW bug wont start-suspect anti theft system. driver lock knob has a red light flashing. When key is turned to on lights illuminate but wont start. when passenger door is opened flasher come on what...

remove the key from the ignition and press the UNLOCK. its saying the alarm was triggered, eg if door was opened without first using the unlock on the remote. maybe when alarm was armed not all doors were fully closed. or you just reconnected the battery so the door was open without you ever pressing the unlock on the remote(which could be called DISARM the alarm)

1999 vw Beetle - door ajar sensor - dings while I am driving. I can slam door a few times and get it to stop - only to hit a rock and have it come on again. Is there a fuse to pull- I just put $550 into...

Sorry, but I don't think there is a quick, easy fix. I'm not sure if there is a fuse for it and if it is a 'shared' fuse. A one that is connected to other features such as the central locking.
It sounds like the switch for the door latch is faulty.
Unfortunately, it is built into the door latch mechanism so your going to have to strip down the entire door, remove the mechanism and strip that down as well.
It is a time consuming, pain in the *** job! But it is one you can do yourself. Be prepared for it to take you a whole day and cost you the skin from your knuckles.
You might be better off paying someone else to replace the mechanism.

Psycho 99 VW Beetle - I think it may be possessed, because I roll the windows up, lock the doors and when I walk a few feet away - the car un-locks and the windows roll down automatically..HELP!!

apparently the VW beetle is an odd machine, there is some kind of module connected to the locks and windows, for instance if you have the door lock, and in the closed position then use the key to unlock and hold it in unlock position the window will roll down showing you that the lock control module is working. if I were you I would seriously consider taking it to a VW dealership and showing them the problem. they might be able to tell you whats wrong or suggest a good exorcist lol good luck

I have a 1999 VW Beetle, and the interior lights come on when the passenger door is opened, but not when the drivers door is opened. Where's the switch?

ah, This is a very common VW issue. Hopefully yours is just gunked up like mine was. i just fixed mine today. here's how...

1. open drivers door, put key in ignition and turn to "run" position (this so you can hear the dinger)

2. trip the latch in the door so it clicks TWICE locked, you'll see.

3. now at the bottom of the latch there is a void you've exposed. Get a Can of contact cleaner, or brakecleaner and HOSE under the latch piece. I mean firehose the hell out of it for a bit, then open and close the door a dozen times or so to work the latch.

4. Repeat as necessary. Plan to use up at least half a can. I had it running out of the door drains. Hopefully this frees up the gunk that probably has built up.

5. Regardless if this does work or not, finish up with something like a few good shots of PB Blaster, WD 40, or some light lubricant. Maybe it will work free over the next day or so.

If this unfortunatly doesn't do the trick the switch might be physically broken. Either spend $170 on a new one or google '$3 vw door fix' if you feel like MacGyver.

Car died and now alarm will not turn off.

manually lock and unlock the driver door with the key. ( i have the same problem) I think its a fuse problem, because if I keep locking and unlocking the car will finally give in and unlock. try opening and closing the door while doing this too.. it seems to work for me.
