The engine runs the power steering pump. When the engine dies, you lose power steering ASSIST. You do NOT lose steering! It does NOT lock. It's just harder to steer. There is no way for us to guess what's causing your engine to die with the scarce information you provided. Get it to a shop to have it checked out.
Depends on whether you have A/C or not. There is only one serpentine belt that drives the power steering, alternator, water pump, and A/C if so equipped. Both the width and the length are different. Just tell the parts person you talk to the year and make of your car and whether or not it has A/C and they will be able to fix you up.
Replace the pump. The pressure regulating valve must be stuck and causing this leak. Either that or you are just unlucky and getting some really crappy hoses.
Take the return hose off from the Reservoir and put in a bottle then start the car and let it pump it inside the bottle add more fluid and let it wash out the old one, Then put the hose back and fill it with new fluid. Good luck
sounds like the pump itself is bad,i would suggest a power steering flush after the pump is replaced just to make sure there is no metal in the system, hope this helps
i have changed the pressure sensor switch on my 2001 PT Cruiser (B). to
find it you will have to put the car on ramps and go under the car
until your under the cross member (right behind the front wheel) it
will be just behind the cross member closer to the driver side wheel.
remember once you remove the sensor gravity will work against you and
power steering fluid will pour out of the sensor hole. and when under a
car there is really no place to go and if your not careful you will have
to resign yourself to being covered in fluid. good luck!
