Your PCV valve from the valve cover goes in the middle bottom front. The vacuun advance from the distributor goes in the front usually on the lower left. The vacuum for the brake boster screws into the bottom back. The vacuum for the choke goes upper left on the front (it's the really short one on the front of the carb). The rear vacuum pot for the choke goes into the lower rear of the carb. Hope this helps.

Go to a olds, dealership and tell them you need a printout, of the vacuum lines on your car. they should give one at no cost.

Sounds like you need a new mechanic.
The idle speed is going up because extra air is entering the intake much like opening the throttle plate. You might be able to plug all of the line fittings to get the idle speed back down, but the hoses would still need to be connected correctly.

I have the same problem and since I had a similar problem in a grand caravan I changed the same thing I did before which was the fuel pump. Well it did not work and I was about to change the coil and now I see your solution did not work either. Thinking of changing the wires and coil anyway. Could be same symtoms different problems.
