I then loosen the base locking ring (2) and take the C spanners and use it on the spring lock rings (1) to rotate the whole strut in the direction I want. i.e when you lock the spring rings you twist one right and the other left so they mesh and lock. So depending on the direction you want to twist the strut, you use the ring that is locked in the direction you want to go (so that it twists the whole strut instead of just unlocking itself.
the 2 bits at the top are for damper adjustment and the two at the bottom are for height adjustment.
c spanners are used just to lock the two together like the two close to number 1.. adjustments are made by hand otherwise you'd be there all day.
the very bottom ring (locking ring) is used to adjust ride height. get a c-spanner on it, and turn it anti-clockwise to unlock it. it may be on very tight, so have a hammer ready to hit the c-spanner in the right direction.

once unlocked, you can twist the body of the coilover up or down.

to lock it, once ur satisfied with height, turn the ring clockwise.

b. the other two rings at the bottom of the spring adjust spring load - allowing u to compress or de-compress the spring as u like.

to loosen, move the top ring anti-clockwise, and the ring just beneath it clockwise. these two rings lock together, so obviously need to move in opposite directions.

to tighten, move top ring clockwise, and the one beneath it anti-clockwise.

very easy to do.

Hello,

Thanks for using FixYa.

There is no specific position for the spring perch. Just assemble it with the spring an shock absorber, put the screws back and you should be good to go.

Bent rear axle

When you say BENT, are you meaning you pulled the Tube out of the Differential or do you mean that you moved the Perch for the Springs?

If you pulled the tube, there is nothing you can do except change the Housing. The AXLE is actually on the INSIDE of the Tube and by pulling you are not going to bend it.

If you moved the Perch, then you can lift the Body of the car, loosen the mounting Bolts on the Perch and get it to sit back on the Perch and tighten it up. This is not a huge issue.

Best thing is to bring it to a Auto Body Shop that has a Frame Machine and have them break out their TRAM and measure and Cross Measure (you can do the same with a Tape Measure and see what is pulled and where...

How to align a rear axle on a 1193 jeep wrangler sport 2.5 liter/ 4Cyl with leef springs

There is no alignment provision on that axle. If your tires are wearing on the inside, the axle housing is bent and needs replacement. If one tire is further back than the other, check the pin that goes through the spring, into the locating hole in the spring perch welded to the axle. If that pin shears or rusts away, the axle can move out of position. If the vehicle has been raised, you can get wedge shims to install between the spring and perch to restore the proper pinion angle in relation to the transmission.
Doing that will lessen chances of snapping driveshaft joints.

When I reverse out with hard left wheel lock. I hear a thud? or something when I straighten up.

Possible front road spring binding due to upper tower bearing seized or stiff.

Maybe spring seat perch breaking up. Weld coming apart....dangerous condition. Many MBZ cars affected.

Have this checked out immediately due to possible safety hazard.

Front right coil spring has slipped below spring perch, need to correct. I need to take apart, looking for a detailed diagram, and reassemble. Can this information be obtained?

This usually happens when the spring has broken. You'll have to remove the upper 3 nuts that hold the strut mount to the body, and the bolt that goes through the lower control arm that mounts the strut, also the sway bar end link, then remove the spring and strut as an assembly. You'll need a spring compressor to safely remove and install the new spring. It is always recommended that you replace the front springs as a pair (both side). This job may be better left to a pro unless you have some experience, also you may be able to buy a product called "quickstruts" They are sold as a spring and strut completed assembly so you won't require a spring compressor.

Hope this helps,
Dave

How do you install adjustable lowering coilover springs on a 1991 Honda CRX SI?

NOT NECESSARILY IN ORDER: Remove the 2 nuts from the top of your shock tower under the hood - remove the pivot bolt at the bottom of your shock fork - remove the upper control arm ball joint nut - remove the lower control arm ball joint nut - bang on the thick metal near the ball joints with a hammer (not hitting the rubber or the ball joint's bolts - remove the tie rod ball joint nut and do the same with the hammer - pull the shock and spring assembly out - You might need a spring compressor to take out the stock spring safely - remove the nut on top of the shock - It's recommended that you replace your shocks now - install the new springs according to the directions with the package - get a camber correction kit for your car - put it back together and immediately go pay for an alignment. Good luck.
