If you go to the lock smith ... he or she can probably flick the broken bit out in about 3 seconds ... compared to the price of a new switch + putting it in and getting duplicates made ... this might be a good alternative.

Nnthe key broke off inside the ignition and am trying to figure out how to remove the broken piece from inside the ignition since i have another key

If the broken piece of key is not sticking out of the ignition lock, unlikely you will be able to remove
it. Because its probably one solid broken piece and its bent so it wont slide right out.

But try getting a strong magnet, and put your spare key in until it touches the broken piece of
key in the ignition. Stick the magnet on the spare key and see if you can pull the broken piece out.

If you have an old speaker thats not working, there will be a strong magnet on the back of the
speaker. Or use a magnetic pickup tool for picking up screws, sockets and stuff under the hood of
your car. You can get a magnetic pickup tool from an auto parts store.

If you cant get the broken piece out you will need to replace the ignition lock. Not easy on
a Cadillac, probably has the telescoping/ tilt steering wheel.

My ignition on my 1999 dodge caravan is stuck. it won't turn at all. any ideas how to help ?

Has it been giving you warning signs? Hard to turn, have to wiggle the key, etc?

Tap the cylinder with the handle end of a large screwdriver (with the key removed). Your not trying to break it your trying to get the pieces/parts inside to settle back where they are supposed to be. Insert the key and try to start. Do this several times. If that doesn't work you'll need a drill, a set of good drill bits, and a pick.

I would leave that to a locksmith or somebody who has dealt with this situation more than once. You can easily cause more damage than necessary if you do this incorrectly.

Key no longer works in ignition. I stopped to gas up and the key I normally use would not open the gas cap door. I re-entered the car and the key would not turn the ignition. The key unlocks the steering...

take it to a lock smith to remove the broken part or you could jam the broken part down to where the ignition will turn with the broken key. I advise taking it to a lock smith to remove the broken part

Ign switch removel 97 jetta

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I googled it and found that I needed the ignition switch replaced. I had to take it to the dealer (I checked other places, but the dealer was the least expensive). It ended up costing me about $250, but there were instructions on the Internet for replacing the switch. I'm just not mechanical enough to try it, and some folks said it was a tough job. I googled 97 Jetta ignition switch replace and the instructions came up. I took the printouts to the dealer and told them: here's what's wrong. Of course they didn't believe me until they checked it out for themseleve. Grrr.
