Sounds like coolant entering the oil system or can be condensation from only being driven short distances.

What is the white plastic bottle at the left hand side rear of Astra engine bay

The Astra has been around since the late 1970's and has gone through many changes since then and there are also territorial and performance/trim level variants to consider. The vehicle handbook is the place to look for information specific to your model though if the bottle has a screw cap it is probably the coolant reservoir/coolant expansion bottle/cooling system degassing tank...

They should be hydraulic tappets and are self adjusting. If you have a noise check the wear of the rocker bushes and rocker shaft.

When should cam belt be changed on 1999 vauxhall astra 1.6 16v car. I am looking to buy car with 61000 mileage and 7 stamps by vauxhall dealer. Seller doesn't know if belt has been done. Thanks

For 1999 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 16V timing belt replacement interval is: 60000 km (37500 miles), or 48 months (4 years). Replace also tensioner roller, (the same interval) !
If you don't know precisely if timing belt has been done, then replace it obligatory !!!

Please rate my response. Thanks!

Everybody hates the grunge, it is normal from oil being beaten to death by your engine. Some oils have detergents in them to clean your engine, usually only big engines, when they are used in smaller engines they froth up. Not to worry I don't think. 8 out of 10 cars are the same way. Hope this helps.

Engine smokes blue white right side only

I'm going to guess it's a blocked oil return in the head under the valve cover. If it fills up the rocker cover, the valve seals can't handle that much oil and it gets into the combustion system. Try looking through an opening, oil cap, PCV valve opening to see if a lot of oil is pooling up.

Otherwise, it could be the PCV valve if causing pressure in the rocker cover. Or valve stem seals if it's worse on acceleration after coasting down. Good luck
