Just did a timing chain on my 96 vortec. Dnt know if i put the reluctor ring in the right place is their a certin spot on the crank shaft that it go's i put it all the way flush as for back as it could go. Not getting any spark wondering if i could have put it out of range for the crank sensor.

Quite possible,remove crank sensor,look in hole and see if tone wheel is in line with hole.

I am changing the timing chain in a 1993 Chevy S-10 with a 4.3L engine. I was told you have to disconnect a wire to reset it but I don't know where the wire is.

Timing Chain: Service and Repair
Tools Required = Crankshaft Sprocket Puller
1. Remove the timing cover.
2. Remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring.
3. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
4. Remove camshaft sprocket.
5. Remove timing chain.
6. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
7. Remove crankshaft sprocket key.

1. Install the key into the crankshaft keyway.
2. Use the crankshaft balancer installer to install the crankshaft sprocket.
3. Install the camshaft sprocket and timing chain.
4. Install camshaft sprocket bolts.
Be sure to align the camshaft and the crankshaft sprocket marks. Timing marks (Number 4 Firing).
Tighten bolts to 21 ft. lbs.
5. Align the keyway on the reluctor ring with the key in the crankshaft.
6. Install the reluctor ring onto the crankshaft until the ring is completely seated against the crankshaft sprocket.
7. Install the timing cover.

Don't know what Wire you are referring to.

4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L and 7.4L Engines
See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6

  1. Remove the timing cover. This will allow access to the timing chain.
  2. Crank the engine until the timing marks on both sprockets are nearest each other and in line between the shaft centers.

  1. On 1996-98 vehicles remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring, if equipped. On 7.4L engines tool J-41371 or its equivalent puller must be used to remove the reluctor ring.
  2. Take out the bolts that hold the camshaft gear to the camshaft. This gear is a light press fit on the camshaft and will come off easily. It is located by a dowel. The chain comes off with the camshaft gear.

A gear puller will be required to remove the crankshaft gear.
To install:

  1. Without disturbing the position of the engine, mount the new crankshaft gear on the shaft, and mount the chain over the camshaft gear. Arrange the camshaft gear in such a way that the timing marks will line up between the shaft centers and the camshaft locating dowel will enter the dowel hole in the cam sprocket.
  2. Place the cam sprocket, with its chain mounted over it, in position on the front of the truck and pull up with the three bolts that hold it to the camshaft.
  3. After the gears are in place, turn the engine two full revolutions to make certain that the timing marks are in correct alignment between the shaft centers. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolts (and nut on the 4.3L) to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm) on 1988-95 models. On 1996-98 models, tighten the bolts to 18 ft. Lbs. (25 Nm). On the 7.4L, tighten them to 20 ft. lbs. (26 Nm) on 1988-95 models. On 1996-98 models, tighten the bolts to 25 ft. Lbs. (34 Nm).

When installing the crankshaft position sensor you must use install a new oil ring seal onto the sensor.
  1. Install the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring (if equipped), onto the crankshaft until it is firmly seated against the crankshaft sprocket. On 1996-98 7.4L vehicles replace the reluctor ring with a new component.
  2. Install the front cover, torsional damper, water pump and the radiator.

I have a 2000 Ford expedition n I dnt know what's

The loud noise could be timing chains, but only the
plastic guides are worn & maybe the tensioners hung
up, depending on how gummed up the oil is inside the

If the oil wasn't changed often,then the VVT -Variable
Valve Timing Cam Actuators could also be a problem

Those two items will be a big job just to inspect

Sensors being a problem will in most cases come up as a
MIL Lamp on your dash or at least in the data on a professional
scan tool or software

Noise aside, which is a problem,you could have a clogged
gas filter & or partially blocked Exhaust Converters

I don't see any problem you have, has so far if you have a
knowledgable person just diagnose the entire vehicle & all
it's problems

Where do i put the transmission oil for puegeot 806 lx auto date of reg 13/2/2001 have no manuel but i dnt know where the automatic tranmission fluid goes plz can you help and is that the right oil the...

First of all we need to know if the vehicle is automatic or manuel? if its automatic then you can ad oil through the ****** dip stick hole and if the vehicle is manuel gears then there is diffrent oil and a diffrent place to put the oil in. Donot put gear oil in power steering.

You might not have #1 at tdc on the COMPRESSION stroke. You're trying to get it to tdc the hard way. Take #1 plug out and have someone bump the starter while you hold your thumb over the plug hole. You'll know when its a tdc cause it'll blow your thumb off. When youve got it close, turn the crank to absolute tdc using the timing marks on the harmonic balancer. Take the distributor out and pull the cap off. Then turn the distributor rotor to point at the #1 plug on the distributor cap. Put the distributor back in and put the cap back on. Make sure that the oil pump slot lines up right, as the distributor won't sit flush until its right. If its not lined up, take a long flathead screwdriver and turn the oil pump to make the two line up. Last, make sure the wires are on the right plugs on the cap using the firing order cast into the intake manifold. Remember that the rotor turns COUNTER clockwise.

Are you getting a transmission warning light in the dash? If you get a warning light, you should have someone check the thermistor that reports the transmission temperature to the ECU. If you are not getting a warning light, it is probably time for a transmission rebuild.
A '95 probably has over 200,000 miles on it by now, right? If it has ever been treated roughly, and/or if the fluid has not been replaced every 50k miles or so, the transmission is due for some work.

you will have to swap intakes dist. timing cover and harmonic balancer so you have the mounting whole and reluctor ring for your ckp crank postion sensor. cmp cam postion sensor is in the distributor,

Fuses don't have the cover ,dnt know what fuse is what or where . 96 nissan maxima

I had that problem on mine when I bought it used.
I went to a salvage yard and gave $5.00 for a replacment.:-)
